Sid Beck's Greek wiring harnesses?
Hi All,
Anyone here installed one of Sid Beck's wiring harnesses that were from the Greek army? I have one, and am comparing it to the M37B1 diagram and it is close, but not an exact match. I have mapped out some of the wires, they are not tagged with the number tags, but they are various colored wires. Mostly I have been paying attention to the rear harness, and have identified the wires coming out of the trailer plug. The plug has 7 wires, but the diagram shows 8 wires. It seems like the right turn signal wire is missing.
Anyone who has tread this ground already would know of what I speak. Any input is appreciated!
Thanks Guys,
Tim

Re: Sid Beck's Greek wiring harnesses?
I have not dealt with the harness in question, so can't speak as to that.
I will say that missing wires or other similar issues is the reason many US harness have hit the surplus marketplace over the years. When a flaw was realized in a given lot of goods, they were simply sold as surplus; most of the time buyer's had no clue of problems unless they were really doing their job of inspecting before purchase. Sid told me about his find of these harness some time before he got out of the business, wanted my opinion of what the quality might be. We talked about it and basically left it with him as I never was able to look at one except in pictures, so I really had no judgement call. Just sit down with your ohm meter and chase the circuits to know for sure what you have.

I've got one in my 51. Best $75.00 I have spent in a long time.
First.. Take a volt meter and figure out the wires and number them. The harnesses do not have turn signal wires in them so I added turn signals to mine when I was at it, and I believe that is why you are a wire short on the trailer light plug.
Second..The colors DO NOT match up between the front and rear harnesses. That's why you need to number them
.
Other than that it works well. The wire is in good condition. Tape needed a rework, but with adding turn signals it had to be redone anyway. Have been using it for about a year and a half with no problems.
Good luck,
Steve

The plugs were wired differently on different vehicles. Here's a generic pinout that should help.

Re: Sid Beck's Greek wiring harnesses?
Tim,
I have the Greek front and rear harness on my truck. Did you get the instruction sheet/ color diagram that Sid made with yours? It outlines the errors in the Greek Army harness and how to fix them. I think only three. If I recall one was concerning the trailer plug.?
I followed the instructions he sent and everything worked as promised. The only non-mentioned glitch was the fuel sender wire at the dash end had the wrong shell, at least on mine. Sid also included plenty of new rubber insulators to replace any cracked ones. Overall the quality of the harness wires was excellent. I had to replace some of the rubber insulators and re-crimp some loose ends. It sure beat fabbing my own for the price.Let me know if you need a copy of that sheet and I will dig it up.

Hi David,
No, he didnt send me anything, but another kind soul sent me a copy. I had been under the mistaken impression that the harnesses had provisions for turn signals, thats what threw me whan I seemed to be coming up short on wires.
Thanks for the offer though.

I have the front & rear harness from Sid, I have only installed the rear so far, I'm not sure how to proceed as my 53 is 12 volt & hoping to stay that way. I wasn't aware that it was a Greek made harness?

Re: Sid Beck's Greek wiring harnesses?
Okay I'll chime in and say I have the greek harness too. I bought it with the intention of salvaging the connectors from it to make my own. My truck is a 51 therefore no need for the turn signal wiring. I have yet to look but is there a wiring schematic in the manuals?
Re: Sid Beck's Greek wiring harnesses?
I posted copies of early and late on the other wiring diagram thread on the tech board.

Re: Sid Beck's Greek wiring harnesses?
GUYS!!!! REMEMBER, IF THE HARNESS DOES NOT HAVE ALL THE WIRES, OR THE COLORS DO NOT MATCH, OR WHATEVER ELSE, ITS "ALL GREEK TO YOU"!!!
LOL. SORRY, I COULD NOT RESIST THAT

Re: Sid Beck's Greek wiring harnesses?
Sotven that is funny
I also have the harness and it works great. The only wire that is miss colored is between the front and rear harness one blue wire goes to the brown to get the tail light and black out light correct. I added the extra wires for the blinkers. Sid sent an article called the definitive turn signal which explains how to add the blinkers. I was working on making a pdf of all the stuff Sid sent me but my computer got a virus and is down for the count . when I get set back up I will continue to copy and create a pdf of all the diagrams and articles Sid sent me so I can send them to whoever needs them.

Re: Sid Beck's Greek wiring harnesses?
Could someone email me a copy of the color coded wiring diagram? I got one when I bought the harness from Sid but can't find it now and not sure where to look now that Sid is gone.
Thanks

Re: Sid Beck's Greek wiring harnesses?
Mkcoen ,
It will take me a little while but I have the drawings from Sid. I had scans of them on my computer but had to reformat last November. SO I will do'em again. It is only the blue wire and the brown wire between the front and rear harness that are not correct the rest were as they should be. For the blinkers you will need to add a wire for power to J on the back of the main light switch plug. Same on the trailer plug Check out Cuz above for a great drawing of the plug and wires.
Take the time to check each bullet end for looseness I had a bunch come off. If that happens drill them out with 1/8 in and solder them in . You will need a 300 watt or better iron or gun. ( Don't use a flame). I had to piggy back the blinker wires on to the harness. I also got lots of small parts from Saturn Surpluss on the net. There are other little items you will encounter but just come on here and we will help you sort it out.
My harness has been in for over a year and no problems.
SO stand by and I will "git'r done".

Hi Rick,
I still have the set of diagrams and the turn signal write-up you sent me. I could make some copies and mail them to you so you dont need to reinvent the wheel. I can also send a copy to Mkcoen.
