Hello. This is my first post on the g741 site. I am a jeep guy who needs some power wagon help.
I have an engine that I would like to offer for sale soon. I think it is an M37 or WC engine.
Can you take a look see and tell me what you think a fair asking price would be.

Re: Help with engine value
Hi Dan,
Welcome to the Forum!
The best way to tell if it is an M37 engine is either through the serial number, stamped on a daised pad on the front left side of the engine, right below the head, or, look at the oil filler tube. If it bolts to the block with 2 studs at the bottom, it is an M37 engine. If it is a press in tube, it could be any number of engines, WC, Power Wagon, Plymouth car, Dodge car, any number of 2wd Dodge trucks etc. The 218, 230 engines were used in a LOT of vehicles. Your serial # should start with T-245 if it is an M37.
In your pictures, the thermostat cover is wrong for an M37, and the main pulley looks smaller than an M37. These are both parts easily swapped onto an M37 engine so they do not nail the ID.
Check out the serial # and get back to us!

your engine has the bolt on oil filler and that is military correct as Tim mentioned about the water neck is not M37,but the rest of it looks as to be M37. As for the worth of the engine is what you can get out of it some areas will bring more than others.
down here there seem to be a few floating around and you will get scrap value out of it. The only way to work with a engine as such is tear it completely down and inspect for condition, grind valves and replace needed parts, but if someone really needs it they are going to pay well for it,but scrap prices today are right at $140.00 - $160.00 per ton go from there. I would hate to see it scraped! good luck and find it a home.

Re: Help with engine value
Not M37 for sure; several components give that away, generator bracket, oil dipstick, accelerator linkage, small crank pulley, especially the clutch linkage mounting pad on the left leg of the bellhousing. All this would suggest civilian PW.Dan S wrote:Hello. This is my first post on the g741 site. I am a jeep guy who needs some power wagon help.

Easily redressed for a M37 application though. We could use it if the block is good rebuildable condition with no cracks. Drop me a PM, we'll talk about it.

Re: Help with engine value
Thanks fellows!
Some good information. I have found the serial number and it is T214SR-0129.
From the internet research that I have found, this id's this engine as a 1942-1945 military WC series engine.
I'm going to start a new thread to offer this engine for sale.
Thanks,
Dan S

That makes sense it is military block, but too early for M37 and it does have the bolt on oil filler the other items Charles mentioned may have been bolted on way later or are WC parts that is something I don't know about, but you at least know what you have now and will be able to put it in the right market place.
