Just in time for my Memorial Day Activities the troop seats are finished

On display at the museum Saturday then Parade and Car Show Monday.
Have a Good Memorial Day as we remember all those who served and gave all.

It changes the whole look doesn't it ?
I like that you stained the wood. That's how I did mine.

Thanks. As silly as it sounds (as I am no carpenter) I found this one of the most aggravating task of the whole restoration. I used the front head ache rack that I got with the top bow set I bought. After I stripped and clear coated (their is no color added to those) I realized It must have been non-original as the hook brackets sit a 1/2" too high? I decided to live with it as only a purist would notice it

I had to re-do a couple boards twice. Oh, I thought is was measure once cut 3 times???

I am off to play tour guide this morning at the Air Museum, I love it, but sometimes it drives me nuts when I realize just how ignorant some "sheeple" are of our nations military history and the sacrifices of the US Armed Forces.

HI David. You would think to look at them the seats would be easy to do but they are not. I used old hinges from VPW and new repro brackets from Snake River. I remember that measure and cut thing also. Heck I even learned how to use a router. That's how I rounded off the edges.
I am glad you volunteer at an air museum. I want to do that here at Pima AIr and Space museum someday. Just be patient with the "sheeple" and maybe they will come away with a better understanding !!

The only other MV to show up to the Museum open house Saturday was a M274.

I kept track yesterday:
"Wow, nice Jeep" was the most popular greeting I got.
Had a Vietnam vet tell me how he used to trade 9:00x16 NDT's to the Air Force guys at the airbase for steaks. He told me 3/4 tires got scarce for a while where he was and everybody loved their M37. So tires drew a premium.
I stepped away from the rig for two minutes to get a hot dog and came back to find some 5 or 6 year old kid unwinding my tow rope...while his dad watched

I said "ya know what I do with that? I hang little kids who don't ask permission to touch other peoples stuff.."
The dopey dad just lauged and told him not to touch it anymore...oy...

What about the guy who brought the airplane (behind you)?

I could say "welcome to the wonderful world of the public & your restored vehicle" but that's rude

. The local MV club around here seems to have no problem with letting the public climb all over their MVs and I guess that's fine as those machines belong to them and they're free to do with them as they please. I'm not to keen on that. If a member of the public asks permission then I (almost) always say "OK" but, just don't come over and start climbing on / screwing around with someone else's (or my) machine.

Over on the G503 there was a thread pertaining to the public and your MV that went on for something close to 15 pages. There were some interesting stories on that thread. In case i forgot to mention it, your truck looks fantastic and is an insiration to those of us that have a really long way to go on the restoration of our Dodges.

I liked the thread over on the G, I am of that ilk, "Always Ask", it's just what I would do, a little courtesy goes a long way.

The F11F was already there so it doesn't count

I will have to get over there and read that thread. Overall most folks are respectful but that kid made my day.
Thanks for the compliments on my truck.
Had a great second Memorial Day with it. Had a current Air Force Sgt. say "man, thats old school.."
The parade went well. It was 91 degrees yesterday in NE Ohio. All i could think of was "Baby, don't vapor lock..." She ran great. I will post pics later.
PS. Won "best Original Truck" trophy at the car show..

David,

Sorry I didn't make it down there. I was doing the home improvement thing of painting the living room and dining room and tearing out the old carpet. Plus cutting the lawn since as you know it's been so dang wet here the last two months my grass was a foot and a half tall!

Your truck looks great! The natural stain look of the seats does make the truck look good, but personnaly I'm not a fan of them because to me it ventures into the rehlm of classic truck instead of military truck. I prefer to paint my wood OD, but that's just a personal taste thing.

I had a guy one time put his muddy boot up on the bumber of my M151 and when I looked at him and said please take your muddy boot off my bumper he said "what? It's an amry truck let the motorpool sergeant clean it." I had to explain to him that I was the motorpool PVT, SGT, LT and CG...

I use to put all sorts of things out on display with my vehicle, but as I've gotten older I put out less and less because of the public being stupid.

Truck is looking great!

Yea, I was playing yard work catch up in between activities all weekend as well.
I think eventually my troops seats will end up OD when I put my canvas on; as my top bows are OD.
I ran into a gentleman that knows you at the MAPS open house Saturday, or at least another Joe up Cleveland way with a leather shop and an M37..

Small world.
Our car show is this Saturday at the museum. It is nice to finally get the rig out and about
