Don't you hate when this happens!!

Post by Wayne64 »

My truck has some serious rust issues. This summer I will be addressing the cab tub and other parts I need to change. I went to open the tool box door and off it came into hand. The bed is next summer if I'm still sucking O2. My next post will get into more detail about what I did after this happened.

I'm back after watching the Grandson. The lid was fairly rusty as well as the hinge being junk, so I started from scratch. The hinge I finally found in Stainless as I wanted. Only one vendor I found had it with the right knuckle width and the right gauge. With shipping a 6' piece cost me $100. That part was the down side as I will only need 20" to do both sides. My Son's got the contract of getting me some sheet S.S. and angle from where their working. I ended up with L316 stainless for both the door and the angle locking clip. I cut the sheet with my plasma cutter and Tig spot welded the clip and hinge on. Even though 316 stainless is real high end it is a bear to drill. Not because of hardness but because of the nickle content. If I was still running jobs like in the past I would have had the Tin Knockers power shear the door to size and for that matter may have had them bend all the "hat" channels used on the bed and I would end up with a bed half made out of stainless.

I can rehinge tool box doors for $25 a pair plus return shipping. Doors do need to be in decent shape. Quick turn around. Interested? Email me Autodoc51@aol.com

That looks great.

Let me see. You had to buy 72 inches of hinge and you used 20 inches that leaves 52 inches enought for four more doors. I have two that both need rehinging...Wanna get some of you money back?
