I believe these modifications were done with what was available. My truck, USAF, has a hood handle made from 1/4 diameter rod.

Re: dodge m37 marine corp hood handle
i tried this over on SS Soldiers and couldn't get the attachments to work so, I'll try it here. The attachments here won't let me upload the jpg of the drawing so, I still need an email address to send it to. I'll try it separately here.

The hood handle on mine is simply a piece of rod bent like in the picture, but instead of the fancy little cone pieces, mine just has nuts on them, outside the hood and inside. I like the cones better!

Re: dodge m37 marine corp hood handle
I picked up a hood handle from Vintage Power Wagons when I was out at the Power Wagon Rally last year. We had the run of the yard. They had quite a few M37s with hood handles and I was surprised at the differences in the handles, even the height. The one I got (as did most) just had washers and nuts on the top of the hood.

Hi Charlie,
Getting any closer to the tonneau cover project? I mounted the rope hooks for the top yesterday and was thinking about you!

The handle on mine is just 1/4 inch rod, threaded on the ends. Hex nuts top and bottom hold it in place.

I am still waiting to get my truck back from the guy who is helping me put the 318 V8 in. Now that the weather has improved, We can wrap that project up. I think the tonneau cover will be a great idea and other members may be interested when I get it finished. I will let you know my progress.
Back to topic, the above pictures are what most all of the handles in the yard at VPW looked like. The ones with the neat ferrules must be an early version before they decided it was to much expense and just went with threaded rod.
