Headache Rack headache
I am getting ready to assemble my front (behind the cab)headache rack boards. Should the center bracket fit flush to the top board? If I do this it seems the drilled holes on the center bracket for the bolts are really close to the board edge? Then also it will not rest all the way in the troopseat hangers?
Is this something you just have to fit and fiddle with? Does anybody have a close up shot of their rack before installation? I am wondering if my boards are a bit off? Thanks in advance . David

Longhunter, Yes, that helped, thanks!
Of course if I would have remebered my own post last week when I stated I planed the edges of my boards
. I probably took an 1/8 off each side, thats why things are just a tad bit off

Re: Headache Rack headache
I purchased my Red Oak troop seat wood as a set all pre-drilled and the correct size for the rack. Some of the pre-drilled holes were off and I had to re-do and adjust a few things.
One of the hardest parts, was painting all that beautiful Red Oak, O.D. GREEN!

I have a NOS rack in the barn I could check tomorrow. It was new in box and never issues so should be a good gauge.

Yes my holes were near the edge. I also 1/4 rounded each edge so it would not splinter. I was able to find white oak for almost the same price as red. I also clear poly'd it and wow does the grain stand out nice. I couldn't cover it with OD. Not original but really sets the truck off nice.

Nice pictures, guys.
Sal,
I like the tire cover for the spare, I was thinking of doing the same thing.

I didn't have a picture to post, so I ran out to the garage. The round head of the bolt is less than a quarter of an inch from the board edge. I got my canvas from New Life, I didn't see the tire cover on the list. It does look good.

Re: Headache Rack headache
I will probably be ready to assemble my troop seats next weekend. I have another question. Given the troop seat back boards are at the 2.75" width, and the seats 3.00", what is the proper mounting dimensions/spacing to the brackets? From the truck pics above it looks like the width between the two seatback boards varies between the OD truck and the natural wood truck? Is there a measurement in a manual somewhere so I know where to drill the holes? Thanks in advance.
