Helmet Wanted

Post by Monkey Man »

I am after either a PASGT or LWH helmet (needs the small peak on the front hence these 2 models) plus maybe an OD cover for display purposes with my quad, anyone got anything?
Thanks

84 views and no leads on a helmet?? ................
Oh well, E-Bay will have to be the next port of call, any recommended vendors that don't sell the replicas?, I would like a genuine one if possible, I'll post a pic of the variant as soon as I can.

Best Regards - MM :-)

OK, instead of me trying to explain it all this site has everything you ever wanted to know about these helmets and seeing as it mentions sizes I had better get the right one to suit me 23 inch noggin...

Thank you for the link.

When I was in the Army (1976 to 1980) the M! (one size fits all) was the issue item. Looking at these helmets makes me feel old.

If I had a extra one I would send it your way.

Thanks Paddy....
I was very lucky when I needed an M1, Carter sent me one as I needed it for the Dodge's display and it is still the best one I have ever seen here (uncomfortable heavy little thing but I am used to it now), most others are surplus units that are in a poorer state or totally shagged out and local "collectors" want Big $ for them. I think the PASGT or LWH is also known as an M88 but I could be wrong. I'll have a look at the site you sent me, looks good thanks. I am looking at several on E-Bay that look good but even the cheap chinese knockoffs may be suitable for display, at $30 landed here it's worth getting one just to look at it, the genuine units seem to be fetching between $100 to 150 plus freight so I will take my time looking. I ride my quad bike as part of it's display so a helmet is a must! :-)

MM
I went to the site you had posted to better understand what the acronyms meant and I was disappointed to read how our government has decided to replace padding in the new helmet with pads the degenerate quickly and turn hard causing headaches and discomfort. these people that make those decisions should be required to were this crap and experience what our troops going through.
I guess it just SNAFU! :x

My Father was a Corpsman during WWII in the Pacific was fond of saying "If I have to eat SPAM them everyone in the government should have to eat spam as well three times a day".

The people who do the buying show have to use or eat what they buy!

Paddy

PS Per my Father they serve SPAM in Hell , well done.

Found out in a round about way that if I had imported an Helmet it would have been confiscated by Customs as for whatever reason only the Military and Police can import PASGT helmets, flak jackets etc. I found one locally at $175 Aud and it is for the most part in good condition, I had at adjust the straps right in for my Noggin, I need to replace the foam pad at the back and maybe get the 4 point chin strap. Unfortunately it involved a 130 Mile round trip to get it though, sometimes living a remote place has it's disadvantages..... LOL

The government gets al the toys. That is total BS and unfair.

I enjoy living out in the woods but I am there miles from a highway.

Cheers,

Paddy

PS If you are in my area there is always a Foster in the cooler and we can shot from the porch.

Paddy, I would be very happy indeed to live in the country, just not possible with my financial position and type of employment so I'll just have to keep on dreaming....
The invite sounds good though, maybe one day, you never know what life's going to bring.
I do need one thing though, the little sleeve nuts for the chinstrap to helmet mount, does anyone have the info for me to get a part# and manufacturer to order a few?
Thanks

Hey Paddy I like that shoot'n from the porch stuff !! OK and a Fosters is cool also :D
I remember Operation Helmet . My youngest, Jeff, was in Iraq in 2006 and you could donate and request helmet upgrades from them. I collected money at work and sent it to them and they sent some to Jeff and his unit. It really made his helmet much better. He still has it today. It's with him now in Iraq again.
