I find that most cops don't care about the plates here in Ohio. Most will just wave at you when you drive by. Unless you forget to turn your serivce lights on.... But that's another story. Carl, Glad you got your vehicles worked out.

Shortly after I posted my last post, I was working on adding some footman loops to my bed, a sheriffs cruiser pulled up in the driveway, turns out he was here to check on our dog licenses.. anyway, we got to talking about my M37 in the driveway, he noticed the plates, said he had never heard of them. I explained the dilemma we have had in Wisconsin with the legality of driving them on the road and where we stood now, He commented on the DMV in Madison and said they are "like a granola bar, hard on the surface, but really just full of fruits and nuts"

...and there it is, in a nutshell! I don't think you have anything to worry yourself over with your local gendarmerie, Carl. That one, at least, has the facts straight. :D

Well, I haven't finished my engine replacement yet.
I don't know if I'll have a problem when I do get it running, but, when I titled my M37, I registered it as a 3/4 ton dodge truck.
I have the standard plate as you'd have on any Ford F250 ect.
Yes I pay more for my plates than a collector plate but I can drive anytime, anywhere, I think.

The new Wisconsin law makes it illegal to operate any military vehicle on public roads without the HMV license plate. I would have loved to be able to legally purchase the $85 truck B plate and use my truck whenever and for whatever reason I wanted. But the new law does not allow that. Yet anyone in Wisconsin that owns a 1954 Dodge power wagon and wants to pay the $85 gets the freedom I don't get. Rich you are not legal anymore. They can't get you for falsely registering your truck but they can get you for operating with an improper registration.

It won't take long for the enforcement agencies to pickup on the new law and the more we asked the policeman questions the more he will ask his peers and supervisors and it will be a simple matter of time for the asking to go all the way up the food chain when suddenly the leadership will pass down a new memo for daily operations for the troops to pay particular attention to this new law.

Yes we can take the risk and LIE and just call it a Dodge T245 and paint it purple but in a few rare instances that will cost someone as much as $10,000/10 years.

All of us fellow MV'ers feel the pain you folks have endured battleing the Wisc. DMV.
The saddest part of this story is that the Wisc. legislators did NOT pass the law restricting or barring the
legal operation of military vehicles; it was the bureaucratic bastards at the Wisc. DMV that basically took the
"law" into their own hands. Using their own discretion to interpret the law. It's called ensuring job security
by making useless laws and forcing the Wisc. DMV to hire more people. And the snowball gets bigger.

You still have an uphill battle but maybe the new Republican Governor will have the DMV and other
bureaucrats shaking in their boots. Let's hope so. Hey, maybe you'll even get concealed carry passed this time.
