This is a question for those of you out there in Dodge land who have done a full on frame off restoration of your rig. When taking everything apart for media blasting, did you take your leaf spring packs apart and blast/prime & paint each individual leaf? Or did you just do them as a set still "bundled"?

I disassembled my springs. First, it allows for complete and thurough cleaning of the leafs. Second, you are then able to grease the leafs upon reassembly. Third, you can replace the old hardware. My 5/16" throughbolts at the center of the springs were about 50% gone. I would not have found that had I not took the springs apart.

If I recall, I took the springs apart on the WC62 I did some years ago but my memory's a little foggy.

Same here, took them apart for blasting, priming and paint. Then lubed with a teflon type spray.

That's good to know fellows, thanks for the replies
. Currently, my M37 is just a frame & springs sitting on top of axles on jack stands. I had to cut three of the 8 spring shackles to separate the axles from the springs. With the weather being so nice this week, I'm going to remove the springs from the frame.

every leaf was disasembled and sanded primed and painted, the center bolt were all in ruff shape, i used a lot of heat from the torch and was able to save all of the original hardware, except for the one that had to be discarded because of usure,
the otrch will be you friend , heat up the part that is the nut and take it out with out jerking the tool, apply even pressure and nothing will break

Thank you Paul. So far, All I've had to use was penatrating oil and the occational impact wrench to remove everything. The only thing that I had to cut off (just remembered
) were the spring shackles but it was only two or three of them that needed it, the rest came right off. M37s were built out of quality steel unlike (everything) from the 70s
.
