Need help in identifying a fuel pump

This fuel pump came from a Dodge dealership that went out of business in the early 70"s. It was part of a big collection of NOS parts. The gentleman that gave it to me works on Chrysler products for about 40 years but did not know what it was for. He thought that since the M37's had something similar I might know myself. I searched all the numbers on the pump but with no luck. Any ideas? Thanks guys!

There's no way of telling what it's for, really. Most fuel pumps would fit a number of different engines by the same manufacturer and sometimes engines built by different manufacturers. That's why junk yards love their interchange manuals so much. If someone comes in looking for a "doohickey" for a '61 Ford and they don't have it, they can look it up in the book and go pull the same "doohickey" off a '65 International truck.

As for the part in your pic, it looks nothing like an M37 fuel pump. If you have the manufacturer's name and some numbers on it, someone may be able to look it up and give you a general idea of what it might fit.

It is made by Carter, the #'s near the mountis are 48548 K-O. On the top of the vacuum part of the pump it has one hose connection marked "wiper" and the other marked "man" with #'s 80-262. Wouldn't the slide part where it rides on the cam mean it was designed for an industrial motor? Thanks for the help! Jim

Jim is that 48548 K-O the only number on the body? Did you look closely at the mounting flange top two edges for numbers?



The two TM's I have WWII and 1952 fuel pumps show the Carters with MxxxS numbers and a few with M2078S type numbers. Nothing close to that 48548.

I took the fuel pump to Don Garlits and he couldn't identify it. He was going to put it in his museum and try to find what it was for. Thanks for clearing up the mystery!
