Just getting started

Post by pryorfire48 »

Wanted to post up and say hi. i have read several post and gathered lots of information already. I purchased a supposed 52 m37 that i found in fellow's back yard. I went to get a tag for it and title for Oklahoma (bought in kansas) and ran into my first bump. The title vin number does not match the frame number. Trying to get that worked out and we will see what is next.

Truck runs great and comes with the original motor and one from a 58. Lots of left over parts and paint from the Kansas army guard base. One set of non-direction tires (5) and a set of Goodyear 36" tires on modified Humvee run flat rims.

I look forward hearing your comments and will try to get pictures soon.

Your vin # should be on your frame, about 3/4" tall numerals, pressed/stamped in, just ahead of your steering box. If you have data plates on your glove box, it should match?
You might need to sand/steel wool the crude off of the frame, I used a straight edge razor to remove under coating

Welcome Pyrofire. Hope you get your numbers and registration worked out. You should be able to find the number as Bruce says.

Welcome! Aside from beaurocracy issues, its sounds like you've got a great start on a great truck. :D

Got the call from the DMV today. They will using the numbers from the frame and Oklahoma will issue me a new i.d. plate and title.
Sad to say the data plate is gone from the glove box.
the frame numbers are easy enough to be seen.
I am the fifth owner, army, fire dept. first buyer, guy i bought it from, me.

Talked to the guy i bought it from yesterday about the title. He had no idea but i do need to make a trip back to his place. He is still finding stuff that a friend at an Army fort in Kansas gave him, including a gallon of paint.

Welcome to the forum. Lots of great advice and good folks here. I remember my trip to the title bureau. A young lass (who could have been an NBA cheerleader) looked at my truck and asked "What is this again?" I showed her the VIN plate on the glovebox and she took that number for granted. It did match my frame number. I offered to let her bend over the front tire to look at the frame number but she declined. That was the most disapointing part of the ordeal
