SLAVE RECEPTICLE

I THINK THAT IS HOW IT IS CALLED. A WATERTIGHT ALUMINUM OUTLET IN FRONT OF THE DRIVER'S DOOR ABOVE THE FLOORBOARD. WHAT IS THE PURPOSE FOR THAT? AND WHERE DOES IT CONECT? MINE IS JUST THERE AND NOTHING IS ATTACHED TO IT. I HAVE ALSO NOTICED THAT NOT ALL M37 HAVE IT, WHICH MAKES ME BELIEVE IT WAS SORT OF SPECIAL APPLICATION? ALSO WHAT COUPLES TO IT?

It is my understanding you can use this to hook up military jumper cables by using the slave receptacle from one truck with dead / low batteries to another truck with good batteries. Then you "jump start" the truck with dead / low batteries.

Exactly. For connecting power between two vehicles or the vehicle and a generator set. Many MV's only had them installed as part of winterization kits. One lead connects with the 24 volt plus cable and the other is grounded to the chassis.

I have forgotten about generator sets being used to start vehicles.

I think all the vehicles I saw in my time in Germany had slave receptacles.

THANX GUYS. SO I ASSUME THAT THE MILITARY JUMPER CABLES ARE DIFFERENT THAN THE CIVILIAN ONES WITH THE CLAMPS AT THE END. AND APPARENTLY MY SLAVE RECEPTICLE DOES NOT HAVE ANY "GUTS" LEFT SINCE ALL THAT IS IN THERE IS A RUBBER PLATE WIYH TWO HOLES MARKED (+) AND (-) AND NOTHING ELSE. HMMM... I MIGHT HAVE A USE FOR THAT SETUP.

Military jumper cables are easy to use as long as both vehicles have slave receptacles.

You should be able to check your slave receptacle with a multi-meter to read 24 volts or what ever your battery voltage is.

THANX FOR THE PHOTOS AND THE INFORMATION. THAT IS WHAT I UNDERSTOOD IT WOULD LOOK LIKE. MY M IS A 62, YET IT HAS THE TWO PIN DESIGN. PERHAPS SOMEONE IN THE ARMY DID NOT PAY MUCH ATTENTION TO DETAILS. INSIDE THE RECEPTICLE IS ONLY THE RUBBER. NO METALIC POINTS OR WIRES GOING ANYWHERE. I GOULD HOWEVER MODIFY THIS AND MAKE IT A REGULAR AUTOMOTIVE OUTLET, KIND LIKE A LIGHTER OUTLET. HMMM... Quite a few dealers carry the receptacles for the truck and the jumper cable assemblies. Figure $45 to $80 for the receptacle and $75 to $125 for the jumper cable.
