First official drive today.....

Post by Nickathome »

Man this was a long time in coming(almost 5 years), but today I took the truck for its first "official" drive. I drove to our local McDonalds to buy lunch. Total distance, about 3 miles up an back. Even though I have driven the truck before, I always had to turn around at the main road because I had not registered it and didn't want to risk being pulled over by the state troopers.. It feels pretty cool to be able to turn onto the main drag and not have to worry about the man pulling up on my six with his lights on. Regardless, I was still worried and nervous has hell. Not from the cops, but worried that the thing would break down or something worse. I checked everything twice this morning, but I guess you always worry. The ride went off without a hitch, and I got some real preplexed looks thrown my way, although noone stopped to talk. Oh well, I guess that will come later when it gets warm and I take it out more. I plan on taking it out one more time today, to a neighbor's house about a mile and a half up the road who is also an MV enthusiast. He has an M38 and an M211, plus some odds and ends. I told him when I got mine on the road I'd stop up to show him the truck.

For now, the rides are going to be limited to short trips to the store or around the neighborhood, until I am confident nothing is going to go iminently wrong.

Congrats on becoming "street legal!" I think you can safely stretch your road trips to 10 or 20 miles already, if you carry your cell phone as a "backup tool." :D

Yeah I took the kids for a little ride ea few hours ago before parking it for the night. We stayed on the back roads but I'd say we drove about 6 miles total. Probably by next week I'll be doing ten milers. A little at a time though.

Oh yeah, cell phone was definitely with me tossed in the glove box....The wife had to say though before I elft for Mickey D's "don't call me call a tow truck". I had to laugh.
