Post by churtle »

All,

What is this ( transfer case, clutch, tranny, damn if i know) and i see gears in it, and what size is the plug and where can i get one at ? and what type of oil weight ....see picx.

I finished the last two shocks and finished the brake springs, remounted the brake drums and tomorrow will adjust the brakes and drum clearance and put the tires back on.....

Have you a photo taken far enough away to see the entire assembly?

My guess is the flywheel housing drain plug opening. Tough to tell with the pic. I do see what looks like a ring gear there....and maybe the oil drain plug to the left....

WOW, YOU HAVE A SHARP EYE RICK. I BET THAT THIS IS EXACTLY IT. HENCE HE COULD NOT TAKE A PICTURE FROM FAR ENOUGH. CHURTLE, THAT IS THE FLYWHEEL COVER AT THE BOTOM OF THE VEHICLE. THE GEAR YOU SEE IS WHERE THE STARTER GEAR ENGAGES TO AND TURNS THE ENGINE. NO OIL GOES IN THIS HOUSING. RATHER, THE HOLE THERE IS A DRAIN HOLE FOR ANY OIL THAT MAY ESCAPE THE ENGINE THROUGH THE REAR MAIN, OR ANY TRANNY LUBE THAT MAY ESCAPE TOWARDS THE CLUTCH. THE HOLE GETS PLUGGED WITH A SIMILAR PLUG TO THE ONE THAT THE OIL PAN HAS, AND YOU ONLY PLUG IT DURING DEEP WATER FORDING. THE REST OF THE TIME IT SHOULD BE UNPLUGGED. :)
