Original Equipment Jack

Post by Av8r »

Hey Guys,

Can anyone tell me if this is by chance an original equipment jack for the M-37? I think it may be correct for a 715 but not sure about the 37.

Thanks

I've only seen the 3ton hydraulic jacks for the M37. TM 9-8030, 1955 edition listed a mechanical jack for it (no picture) but apparently that must have been a misprint because no one I've talked to has ever seen anything but the hydraulic jack with these trucks. The ORD 7, 1957 edition lists the hydraulic jack so if there was a mechanical version it was short lived.

It would be interesting if it was the mysterious mechanical jack. What is it's lift range? 3 ton capacity? Any markings?

We have a jack just like the one pictured, I can say one thing for it; it's a really good jack. Ours has been around here I know for 50 years, still going strong. It works very well to lift an M37, is it original equipment? That I honestly don't know.

I found this jack while cleaning out my grandfather's garage a couple of years ago. And like Charles said it is a really good jack. Jacks up the 37 very easily. It has a lot of adjustment range in height and it takes up very little space in the tool box. The other day my M715 buddy sent a photo of what he was told an original 715 jack looked like and it was this same jack. So I just got to wondering if it was some general use m-series jack that may have been original to the 37 as well, or was it 715 specific. Just thought it would be funny if the jack I was using, for the simple reason that it worked well, turned out to be original equipment for the 37. So the question would be what was my grandfather doing with it? One clue to that may be the fact that he drove nothing but Jeep pickups from the 50s through the 70s and maybe it's just a Jeep thing (which by the way I do understand). So if anyone comes across one just know that they work well, they look like something that belongs in a 37, and whether or not they were original they were probably used in at least one m-series application.
