What number does it have in the Serial Number block on the big data plate on the glove box door? If nothing has been swapped out, it should match the number on the frame rail (underneath 50 years worth of paint and crud just ahead of the steering box). That number on the frame is your actual VIN.

Frequently, the title only had the last few digits of the frame number as the VIN for registration purposes. This "shortened" version would be what the data plate showed as the vehicle serial number. If the numbers on your title match the last few numbers on the frame, you should be good to go. You can always get a new data plate and stamp the number on it. :)
