M37 canvas bow supports and M101 canvas bow supports

Post by Paddyofurniture »

Are the M37 canvas bow supports ( the metal corner connectors between the wood sections ) and M101 canvas bow ( the metal corner connectors )supports the same part?

Thanks,

No. The M37 corners have the bolts going through horizontally, while the M101 corners have them going through vertically. Or is it the other way around? Whatever! They're different, but it only "matters" if you're a stickler for accuracy in a restoration.

The M37 corner bows are drilled so the elevator bolts don't lay under the canvas and eventually wear a hole through it - they run from front to back. The M101 bows are drilled to run the other way, from out to in. I guess the M101 canvas was cheaper to replace. Who knows why they did it that way?

In the early M37 days the M37 and the M101 trailer had the same tire and rim.

I was think the bow supports would be another part both the M37 and the M101 trailer would have in common.

That is what I get for thinking.

Paddy,
Did the M101 have the same brake drum as the M37s? Read somewhere they did.

Phillip,

I was think the same but I not sure.

I think there where different stock numbers. I am unsure if they inter change.

Paddy,

It appears that the M101x trailers used two different type bow corners. The early ones were the same or at least similar to the WW II trailers in that the bolts went through from the inside to the outside (or vice versa) but that later ones went through lengthwise (the same as the M37 bow corners).

The M101A1 definitely used the M37 brake drums and shoes and wheels and the TM for it shows it using the bow corners with the bolts running lengthwise to the trailer (m27 style corners). I assume that all later models of the trailer also used the same bow corners but the A2 trailers sued different wheels and hubs. I have the TM for M101A1 trailer and I THINK it shows the A2 model but I don't remember for sure. I would like to find a copy of the straight M101 manual and see what it shows.

I've posted about this topic before and that post has pictures including a restored M101A1 trailer show search for that post.

Joe,

Thank you for the info.

I checked through the old posts with no luck.

Can you re-post the photos if you still have them?

Thanks,

Paddy
