Clutch question

Post by sunsetoutpost2 »

Drove 140 miles each way to the Ohio Motorpool meeting Saturday and began to have trouble getting into gear. After a couple hours on the road, the transmission did not want to go into gear leaving a stop. I have the correct free play in the clutch, NP420 trans loaded with Synergyn 50 wt racing. I'm guessing a warped disc or the disc is not sliding on the shaft. Any other ideas?

If your clutch free travel is correct, then I agree that your disc may be sticking to the input shaft. You might pull your bottom access cover and shine a light up there while someone else moves the clutch pedal in and out.

How are you setting correct free travel? Correct free travel is not necessarily the 1" that the book says, current wear on the various components will dictate the actual free travel that is correct in your case. You could have slipping linkage components or wear in play that will not allow the clutch to release fully even though free travel appears correct. A seizing shaft in the pilot bushing is notorious for causing what you describe also.
