Holy Crapola! I passed up one of those big Generator/Regulator Test Sets a couple of months ago! I didn't know that was what it was for. I'm headed south again tomorrow. I'll see if it's still there but it's doubtful.
Thanks for posting that TM. The Autolite TM talks about tests using that test Set but it makes a lot more sense now that I know what it looks like.
Thanks for posting the HF manual AND the coupon, Oddjob.
I was looking at the antiquated box too... Would be fun to have one but man if it doesn't work it'll be a paper weight... Of course back then everything electronic was repairable...
Yeah no problem on the coupon... and I hope that other shed some light on what that little automotive multi-tester does...
My GUESS is that it would kept at a fixed shop.I don't think they would do enough internal repairs to the generator and regulator to justify having the tester at a forward location. Most small items like that are sent back to a fixed shop for repair. But you could look at the SMR code for the generator and regulator and see what level they were repaired at. I've done Level of Repair Analysis (ALORA 3) for the US and Canadian Armies. It's pretty interesting all the things that they take into consideration.
I didn't make it south today to check on the Test Set that I saw. My Discount Auto Parts battery died so I had to go buy another one (but not from DAP!) This is the FIFTH one I've had die suddenly in the last two years!

Where can you buy these kits from ?

Long story but lucky on my part. About 8 years ago my younger Son and I went crazy buying surplus military Gen Sets. I needed a shielded high tension test lead to get these babies putting out again. I found one (cheap) but ended up with the complete test kit with directions. Low and behold a few years later I end up with the M37. So I have a FSN 4910-348-7600 kit made by Sun Electric (remember Sun tachs in our muscle cars?) Now if you look at the adapter # 4910-356-7492 the distributor primary adapter it has two different thread sizes. One thread is 1/8" NPT and I always wondered if it would serve double duty as the piston TDC locater in the head?
