Fan Belt

Post by HOODWINCK »

Hello havent been on here before so hello to all,,,i would like to ask i anyone has cross referenced the fan belt on the M37,is there one that is an exact match to anything current,i'm in the U.K. and would prefer to source one locally ,as most things shipped from the States gets clobbered with import tax and duty.

Any help would be appreciated.

Welcome to the Forum! I don't know of an exact replacement belt, but any full-service garage should be able to match it up.

If everything is original M37, the belt you need is a B52. This is the industry standard number these days, good at NAPA and any good industrial parts supply house. NAPA has not sold the MODAC brand in at least 15 or more years, they are long gone as is this ancient old number system. Most if not all industrial belt suppliers now are on the standard number system. This number crosses between all major industrial brands and will get you the same belt width and length in any brand. B52 is a slightly shorter length than the original, we have used them on the standard set up for years, depending on how much wear your pulleys have, in many cases the original belt length will require that the generator either touch or almost touch the fender inner splash shield in order to tighten the belt. This slightly shorter belt will eliminate that, it brings things back into prospective very well. We never use a longer belt on the 230 engine unless a power steering pump is installed in which case the belt you need is a B56.

Hi Stu,

I have the gas can carrier with brackets for the wing, the inner splash shield for the right wing,Battery hold down, battery box lid, take off carb(Ball and Carter),Pioneer rack.and the Operators manual new condition. oh and an M715 rim that came with the truck,i didnt realise it was wrong for the M37 till i tried to put it on...the lug patterns different even if the tires the same...

I also have 4 rims that i'm getting blasted to replace the ones on my truck so i will eventually have 4 spare..

To refer back to the current topic i have tried to search for all the belts that you guys listed and a couple of others and the only ones that seem to be currerntly available are the NAPA 5L520W ,size 52" (1321mm) by 66" (17mm) or the NAPA B52 size 52" (1397mm) by 66" (17mm).So correct me if i'm wrong..

Cheers.

Oy, Hoodwink! How did you come up with a NAPA part number? Has NAPA opened up shops in England since I left there some 20 years ago or are you ordering from them on line?

Hi Guys, we do have American car parts shops here in the U.K. and they do stock a good amount of parts including fan belts,i'm working abroad at the moment so all I can do is search the internet, but when i get back i will check it out,the most important thing is the actual size of the original belt ,the one i have on at the moment is for the WWII Dodge ,i just wondered what was out there.

Cheers..
