Post by HingsingM37 »

I know the shovel has an id of a Ames #2, is there a size and ID for the pick and handle?

Not that I'm aware of, and Memphis Equipment has these on E-Bay all the time (that's where I got mine). I would imagine they can be found locally too, not that I ever looked for them.

The handle I recently bought from my local hardware store closely matches the military handle. The biggest difference I see is the finish. The new one looks like it has polyurethane coating which should sand down well enough to take a nice coat of OD. Dimensionally, it looks the same, fits the rack and mattock head OK.

I agree with Mike and have done the same thing! I bought my handle at ACE hardware and scuffed and painted OD and looks like original old stock, and they cost about $12.00.
