Jerry Can Strap

Post by HingsingM37 »

Ok guys, how is the strap supposed to be fastened to the gas can cradle? I got a new strap and it came as two pieces with one buckle. The longer of the two canvas straps has a plain end that looks as if it needs to be sewn or use anther buckle. The shorter strap already has a loop sewn in it? What am I missing? How do these attach to the slotted holes in the cradle :? ?

I've always seen the older straps fastened with solid rivets (not the blind/pop rivets). I don't know how you are going to get the strap with the sewn loop on unless you cut open the loop.

The ones we had in Germany all had one long strap that fed down through the front, around the bottom, and up through the back slot. The two-piece straps can be riveted in place, as already mentioned, or sewn in place (if you know a lady who would be willing to do the job).
