Need some hood/bumper numbers for my truck.
Im looking for someone that can give me some numbers I can use on my 52 M37. Mine had been sanded off at some point in its life and I could not recover any of them. I will need the hood and bumper numbers. I did find the original OD green under the hood with the warning so I know it was an army truck at least. My truck has been painted AJP WWII SEMI-GLOSS, Late 1944 thru 1957, so its a lighter shade of OD green if that helps at all. I would greatly appreciate the help. Im almost to the point of ordering a stencil kit for it. Thanks in advance.

Take your pick. Most guys go with something from their military service. In lieu of service experience, heck, pick an archival photo in the era/period you are interested that matches your truck configuration and shows bumper markings and go with it. I suppose you could go from Korean War to early VN. I don't know how often vehicles got new paint jobs then but I would think that by early-mid 60s, most would have been repainted to the newer SG OD shade.
It is common practice to fabricate a fictitious hood registration number by using the the first 2 or 3 digits common to your truck's date of delivery and then insert the last 4 or 5 digits of your truck's serial number. For example let's say you have serial number 80009910 DOD 1 JUL 51 then based on the registry the hood number for that date would have began with 238XXXX. So a good way to fabricate a number is to use 2389910. This makes it obvious to researchers in the future that your hood number was a contrived number and not original. This helps keep data bases from getting skewered by fake numbers.

It's your truck you can go any route you want any path you wish. If youw an to make it a USMC truck then paint it Forest Green with Yellow markings. If you want to be a little different from your Dad and keep it Army that's cool too. See if you can get your dad to tell you where in VN he served and do some research here on the web to find and army unit that served near him or maybe even with him and use that unit for the markings.m37_power wrote: My father was in the Marines during Vietnam, but my truck was from the Army so I cant go that route.
Again it's your truck do as you want with it.
M37s are HMMWV in my world!
