Canvas and questions

Post by RADDOX »

I find myself in a position (=Money) of being able to obtain all the canvas (cargo cover, end curtain, cab canvas and all the hardware) for my truck. Is there one source that can provide what I need ? I have the proper corner pieces for the bed cover and can make the wood, but will need everything else. I would really like to do this as a one stop deal.

Thanks guys !

You are in a most enviable position, my friend! :) Unfortunately, I can't answer your question.

I'd get my canvas from the best dealer in town. Pick one of the three. You'll find everyone has a horn to toot. I've seen all three's products and I'd be happy with any of the three. I don't recall any of the three selling bows.

I'd look for the bows and hardware at all the other places that deal in them.

Beachwood Canvas - www.beachwoodcanvas.com (or something very close to that). I have no experience with them, but they do come to mind as a supplier of military tops and covers....

The second "big name" in military canvas products is Weebee Webbing (or something like that). I've never ordered from any of them, but those who have report the products to be very good. Most items are made to order, though, so it will usually take a while to get the pieces after you order them.

I'm not aware of any place that will have the hardware and canvas in one setting. I used Beachwood Canvas for my interior seating (still need to get the cargo canvas) -their product is top quality.

Looks like I left on the Big 3 list in my earlier post:

New Life Resources http://www.newlifecanvas.com/

WeeBeeWeebing http://www.odcloth.com/

Beachwood Canvas http://www.beachwoodcanvas.com/

As I said above I have seen a lot of examples of all three and all three are good quality. That leaves price, customer care/service and markings on canvas as the only real issues.

I have used (at one time or another) all three of the canvas shops that cuz has listed. I used beachwood for the canvas on my WC51. Really liked their stuff but it was expensive. I used weebee webbing for my M151A1, they did excl. work for the money and were easy to deal with. NLR, I only used for some seats for my M38 clone (CJ3A) and the product was well made and priced accordingly. I'd deal with them again.

When it comes time to buy canvas for my pride & joy, not sure who I'll go with so I'll save that for a future thread..... I honestly believe that you can't go wrong with any of the above businesses for canvas.

here's something to (maybe) consider, I ordered all the canvas for my '44 WC51 from beachwood. When I went to order all the canvas for my M151A1 from them, I was told that with the "late" (post war?) stuff they usually don't keep stock on hand but make it to order and was told at the time it would probably be a 6 month lead time. So if it's beachwood you want, call 'em up first and find out what the lead time might be for an M37.

Has anyone had any dealings with New Life Canvas lately? I have had a M416 cover, a tire cover (and a M42 side curtain for my brother in law`s truck) on order for a while and not heard from them. I tried calling and got the machine last time. I assume they are really busy or they forgot about me. They do great work as I have used them in the past for various canvas needs. I hope they are doing all right.

Beechwood is top notch and the price reflects that. If you have the money to budget for their products, they are worth it.

Weebee is also good in my limited experience with them.

You probably will not get the hardware from the canvas dealers. Look elsewhere like MV shows and swap meets.

I would stay away from "middle man" or parts dealers who sell canvas products they themselves do not make. On occasion, they may sell low quality stuff that isnt worth having to deal with...

I talked to Geraldo today and he said he had several sets of metal parts for the top, he's a member here, sells some M37 stuff and is a good guy to deal with.

I'm totally satisfied with what I've gotten from WeeBee Webbing.

Tom,

I've been in contact with New Life Canvas as recently as the beginning of this month to order a custom M37 tire cover. I talked with Mona and according to her they are swamped, they're having a hard time keeping up with orders so I don't think they've forgotten about you.

I've had better luck getting a hold of them by email than by calling, try that and ask the status of your order.
