I was involved in the project also (my topic was electrical). I think I sent everything to Robi but do not recall. I think I still have the CD here someplace but honestly cant recall exactly what we did in terms of how it was done or organized.

Of course you wouldn't refuse, but you did auction it off knowing full well the price it could bring rather than simply selling it to someone for a few extra bucks.. Hey if you are cool with that then its all good. But again its a two sided coin and shame on the sucker who wins the bid and gets ripped off.....

Hey,...Have any gold that you purchased years ago at say $350 an ounce that you would like to sell for say $370 an ounce ....at todays rates?

I don't know why there's quibbling over a book.

I personally know MV parts vendors** who buy low and sell high to fellow club members. I get to choose who I buy from so I can control what I pay. Sometimes a guy has what I really want and I have to pay his price. Other times I can find it cheaper somewhere else if I don't need it immediately.

Do I say bad things about such vendors? There's no point. Often, there are folks who have more money than me and don't mind paying $50 for something I can find for $10.

That's capitalism. It works. I shop around and you should too.

From a publishing perspective, not many publishers are going to be interested in this project. They are going to see a limited market for sales.

You could do a history and restoration guide similar to Don Bunn's Dodge Trucks including a walk around section to document the production changes that occured over the lifespan of Dodge truck production.

I was talking to the Walter P Chrylser museum and they advise that the records to the Defense Division went to General Dynamics when they bought it in the 70's. I am not sure what records still exist and have to try to follow up with General Dynamics.

The National Archives or the historical section at TACOM in Warren, Michagan probably will hold some stuff as well.

It would be a big project and it could be done but you would need to devote a good block of time to do a really good history on the M37.

I figure at least a year easy and from experience I can advise that you are not going to get rich writing this book. It will be a labor of love.

I think this could be written as one of those "print on demand" books. Have it offered for sale through one of those websites and the proceeds would be for this website.

Finish the book and we'll see about publishing it.

There was a small group of Dodge M37/G-741 enthusiast who were fine tuning/editing this Forum, the M37 Registry, something happened, we never finished, it all happened just as Robi retired, I still have all of my completed work! Monkey Man, Robi, Nivek, Kevin & myself & I don't remember who else was involved, maybe Brian in Oregon............
Tony can we still make this happen?

Well, if I get some time spare over winter I can have a go at it, Robi sent me all the files, I just have to try and make sense of it all

Some tutorials would be nice a few PDF'd TM's would be helpful too... If I can get my hands on some original manuals I can destroy (I cut the bindings off on a commercial paper cutter...) to benefit the group I'll take the time to scan and PDF them for download... Right now I'm scanning in copy's of copies... and photo copied manuals are just poor quality but they are better than nothing... The one I have done currently is TB 9-2855-7 TO 19-75CFBA-7 M37 Top installation manual and is a whole 13 pages long... but I am also working on The operators manual... I'm hosting TM's and manuals over on another site I work on...
I look for as many Original TM's as I can get my hands on to digitize because the quality of these reprints are really poor at times...

As far as the book I was looking at that myself when I found out it was out of print I was going to look for it but certainly wouldn't pay out my ying yang for a book with some pictures and print... I can get that for free using Google...

We picked up a copy of the book in 03 before we got our 37, and we still have it. We used it as a starting point to give us some idea what we were getting into. My son and I both enjoyed reading it and did refer back to it once in awhile...

I agree it might not go as a big interest book BUT as a pdf or limited print book or print on demand it would be worth it. I am thinking of a service type or how to book, not a complete history of the truck. That would be a really big job. Oddjob your idea of copying old manuals for pdf is great. If there was a way to have the manual and then include new information to make a task easier that would be all the better. An example is valve tappet clearance. The TM says do it with the engine running and gives only hot clearances. Here on the forum, it has come up several times. Charles T. has taken the time to post how to set the lash cold, engine stopped. This is much better, and your hands are happier. So if this alternate method was listed along with the original you could look it up in the TM and see the original and also the way to do it better..
I think it would be great to have the information all in one place and not have to either re ask the question or look back in past posts or not know that there is a better way to do something.

Well Liifer is talking about me in this post. Really it's fine, I know he has no doubt read the same discussion several times. I also know my opinion of the book is only that, my opinion. Every time it comes up, seems it isn't long until someone who really has no idea about it is willing to spend way more than it's worth. This could be looked at more than 1 way, some just want it cause it's out there and think it will really help, after all why would a book get published under that title, and yet not be worth much? I hate to see someone pay a rediculous price and have virtually nothing that is of benefit. This person might well wind up thinking why didn't someone tell me this was what it is, and I paid THIS for this? I'm not instructing anyone what to do with their $$$, I do think it is only fair that they know what it really is before they spend money. With the copy that is being passed around, that's fine as there is only shipping cost involved, and whom ever is here on the forum knows what they can expect from it already before they ask to get it.

So, I'm letting it go and will refrain from getting involved in any more threads concerning it. I guess I'm old school, if somebody see's me headed in a direction that is dead end, and can shed light, I was always appreciative of that. Before someone thinks I'm offended by Lifer speaking his mind, I certainly am not. He was simply doing what I have done 10,000 times, just saying how he feels on the subject, and that's perfectly ok. I respect that.

Maybe we can turn this into a good thing. I think all of us who own that book and who is going to be coming to the Aberdeen show should bring it along and donate them to the auction they have where the proceeds go to benefit the ordnance museum or some other worthy MV cause.........I seriously may just do this.

I wasn't "pointing my finger" at any specific person, Charles. Especially not you, as I value your input on most things. In this case, I was "aiming" at everyone who jumped on the bandwagon about the book's shortcomings. I have read the book and certainly would not want to base a full restoration on its content. I would love to have a personal copy for my collection purely because it is the only book on the topic as yet, but I'm not about to pay the drastically inflated price that it can be expected to bring these days.

My point was simple. Gerry was saying "It's available for loan. Who's next in line?"

The rest was unnecessary as far as I am concerned. I've been around for quite a while, now, and have heard all about the book, but I suppose it doesn't hurt to put it out there for the newbies once in a while.
