U-joint yoke

Post by N1VSM »

The ears on some of my u-joint yokes are bent (in - of course). Seems like someone pressed in the old caps a bit too enthusiastically. I want to bend them back in to position enough to get the "+" out & replace it. What is the best way to do this? "Grab & pull" didn't work - should I heat it up before bending, or would that weaken the metal too much? I'm talking about motion of 1-2 mm at the end - very little, but enough to make it impossible to rebuild.

Most yokes I've seen that need some minor adjustment usually need a hit or two from a calibrated poundometer (read:hammer  ). Yokes are fairly forgiving providing they are not too out of round. A little bit of heat would be a last resort for me, but an acceptable method to my way of thinking.

This isn't the only way though, I'm sure someone will educate us both to a better way, and I'm all ears... :D
