Unit/Company No's...
I've located my Unit and company numbers up on my front bumper how does a person research those numbers to find out where the vehicle was last stationed...
The truck originally was an air force truck but the markings for it are long since gone so I'll be sticking with it's last paint scheme of OD green...

Post them up here and maybe someone here will be able to decifer them for you. You read the bumper markings from Left to right as you look at the truck. So on the front it will be passinger side of the bumper and then drivers side and rear will be reversed drivers side and then passinger side.
example 2A 23P 253-2 Would be 2nd Army 23 MP Battalion 253rd MP Company vehicle #2. (I just made the numbers up)

I found this...
I found this over on Olive Drab... http://www.olive-drab.com/od_mvg_markings.php
Which kinda got me started in helping to figure it out...
The Markings are as follows Left to right...
40-2-160I C-13
40th Division 2nd Battalion 160th Infantry Charlie Company Vehicle 13 or Charlie Company 1st Platoon 3rd vehicle...
40th Division and 160th Infantry would match from where the vehicle was brought down from...
So... Did I do good or am I wrong somewhere... The numbers make me curious it's always fun to know...

Looks good to me. Other than I think it would be 40th Division 2nd Brigade 106th Infantry Battalion, Charlie Company Vehicle 13 (The order or placement in a road march).
It always goes from Larges to lowest unit. So in this case Division then a Brigade then a Battalion and then the company.

Heya, Oddjob!
Interesting find you made there.... 40th Infantry Division is the major Army National Guard command in California, and the 160th Infantry is a large part of the division.
Your vehicle is definately a local, with the Division headquarters based in Los Alamitos, and units of the 160th Infantry based in Bell and Gardena (?) at various times. It's very possible that your truck is a veteran of the Watts Riots, when divisional units were called out en masse to put down the disturbances.
Here's some info on the division: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/40th_Infan ... ed_States)
Sometime after the adoption of the MERDC 4 color camo schemes in 1975, all vehicles under divional control were camouflaged in a modified MERDC grey desert scheme that replaced the 3rd color (earth yellow) with more sand color.
Here's a link to the MERDC schemes: http://www.olive-drab.com/od_mvg_camo_tc5-200.php
Hope this helps!
