I see so many posts like this where the wife MUST give her OK first. I can't live my life that way, and I don't expect my wife to either. We're all adults here guys, no permission needed just do it....
Not to sure on exactly how smart this approach would be. It brings to mind a line I've heard for years, there are 2 kinds of married men, hen pecked and separated. Just kidding, it would certainly be a different issue for every couple. Personally, I like for the wife and I to be aggreeable up front on such issues, works much better in our case.
Yeah and up these parts there is also a term for those gentlemen who can't do anything unless the wifey gives her nod, and that's called being pussy whipped in plain English! And I have known a few guys like that who yes, indeed wound up separated/ divorced....

I like my wife too, but I didn't get married to have my sigificant other tell me what to do. I'm not a child, and neither am I that inept that I can't rationalize when to buy something and when not to. Marriage to me is a mutal agreement and as such the spouse doesn't take charge nor is expected to be subserviant. Its a team effort. There are times when my wife buys things that I may not agree with, and I know there are times I buy things she isn't into. However we both know that we are each responsible adults and would never do anything to jeopardize our finances or our happiness. And we each respect the other's decisions. That said, to each his own I guess...

A lively topic indeed!
First, as stated, that's a great deal for any decent M37, especially with a winch.

Second, keeping family harmony is crucial when taking on any project. My wife of 27 years only asked "Are you sure about this?" when she saw the $600 basket case M37 that I bought in 2004-the same one she helped me replace the front spring perches on, last Saturday-a wrench-turning first for her and a win-win for me. From day one I get X dollars monthly out of the household budget to put into my truck and it is payng off-with no family drama. I also make it a point around mid-week to ask what our weekend plans are, and make time for non-M stuff as necessary. This might be a difficult arrangement for some but it works for me.

Pretty much like that for me, too, Gary...except I never have to ask if "we" have plans for the weekend. She always TELLS me. Usually about 5 minutes before we're supposed to depart. ;)
