Post by 8543bob »

I REPLACED MY MECH FUEL PUMP WITH AN ELECT 24V. I REPLACED IT BECAUSE I WAS TOLD BY THE PEOPLE AT THE FOREST SERVICE IT WAS BAD; IT WAS NOT. I HAD A RESTRICTION IN AN OLD RUBBER HOSE THAT WAS CAUSING MY PROBLEM. SO I HAVE AN ORIGINAL WORKING FUEL PUMP FOR THE "M" MAKE ME AN OFFER AND I WILL SHIP IT OUT, SHIPPING IS EXTRA.
THANKS

Fuel pump

Post by Nickathome »

Why not reinstall it and leave the electric in the line as a backup? I normally turn on the electric pump to give the fuel a boost to the carb when starting a cold engine. Helps to where I don't have to do as much cranking. Once the engine fires up I turn it off.

I have a plan to someday run a couple hoses and valves so in the event my mechanical pump goes south and I'm on the road, I can do a quick bypass and run the electric pump to get me home.

Why not leave the mechanical pump in place, the electric pump will push fuel thru it. The only word of caution is to make sure that the diaphragm isn't ruptured and dumping gas into the crankcase.

Exactly the reason why I want to run a bypass. I have all the valves and hose, just haven't decided to take the time to do it.

Just add a "T" to the carb fuel inlet and a check ball type valve towards the fuel pump preventing back flow from the electric and plumb the electric into the center leg of the "T" with a ball check valve in it's line preventing back flow from the mechanical pump.
