Who takes a man's mailbox post?

Post by HingsingM37 »

So I was all set to install my front springs and start the rebuild on my front axle this Sunday when the wife calls me at work Saturday and says "Where's the mailbox post?" "It's gone!"
My first guess is that a snow plow nailed it. She said no, the actual mail box was sitting unscathed in the ditch. Somebody was kind enough to remove the box last night, dig out my post and take it. Strange, why leave the letter box and steal the post?
Now I will spend Sunday CEMENTING a new pole into the ground. Granted this wont take all day and I may still get some wrench time, but it is an annoying pain in the butt :x

Are you living in the "Twilight Zone?" ;)

Sounds like something the local teenagers might get up to. Stealing a mailbox is a felony in my neck of the woods. Stealing the post it sits on would be a misdemeanor and probably wouldn't even be prosecuted unless it was an expensive hand-carved mahogany post. If the "thieves" were caught, they'd probably just get a bit of a "talking to" and the cops would laugh their butts off about it over their next donut.

Living in the Twighlight Zone? Now there's a loaded question!
Got up early, set up a new mailbox, done. :)
I will at least be able to get my front springs on today and maybe disassemble one knuckle before I attack the other "honeydo" projects.I have no doubt I will see my old carved 4X4post as part of some kids treefort somewhere in town...LOL

That is strange..

Around here in Eastern Oregon folks have had all kinds metal "gone walking away". Most of it has been things like your post, fencing, gates, anything easily removable.

I was at scrapyard last week looking for some plate copper to remake my welding fishplate collections. Found what I wanted, it looked familiar. Underneath three of the sections was my former businesses name that had been stamped in a 2'x4' 3/4 inch thicksheet I had in back of my service truck.

It's been missing for years, the plate. Was interesting to refind small parts of it.

Buddy had a few rusty farm implements out on his huting cabin/get away from it all hideaway. We went out to check on the spring that waters his stock. Pile of metal was g-o-n-e gone. Cabin and outbuilding not a problem..

I dunno folks, seems like a hellova hard way to make a buck.

Yea, here in Ohio we just had a house blow up because crackheads broke in and stole all the copper and black pipes and electrical wire. Sad thing the gas was still on and it flooded the basement. Very common nowadays. We just had a news story about folks stripping aluminum siding off of occupied homes to scrap! The reporter was chasing a bum with a shopping cart down the street asking him where he got the siding. He denied taking it even though they got it him on tape ripping the siding off the house :x ...
