2 M43's on Seattle craiglist

Post by neverfinished »

I have no connection to either but wish I had some extra cash.
I guess I don't know how to put link here, but just go to Seattle craiglist and look in cars & trucks. Hope someone gets a new toy. :D

Actually right now there are 3, one in Duvall, one in Edmonds and the one at the dealer just west of Bremerton. I've driven by the truck in Bremerton a number of times, I'm just a few miles up the road from it. From what I've seen it's a bit overpriced, considering the non-stock motor and the body rot, what I'd have to invest in it to make it last and what it would be worth when I'd finish, I'd pay half of what the dealer is asking, if that. There seem to be a lot of M43's around here for some reason. There was another M43 in a local junk yard with a quartet of M37's about a year ago. I heard somebody came down from canada and took it and the two best M37's. I wish I had had the cash to grab it and the space to store it, it was stock, complete and the scrapper only wanted $800 for it. I remember another M43 in seattle about 6 months ago that was pretty nice, not totally military spec, but very clean and it was very reasonably priced too if I remember correctly.

EDIT: I just hit refresh and the truck in Edmonds has vanished, perhapes somebody did get a new toy.

EDIT EDIT: URL's for your veiwing pleasure

Yank-a-part on Bond road just outside of Poulsbo had them. I think the story was some widow had them out in the woods around here and just called up the guys at yank-a-part and had them come haul everything off about 14 months ago. They were on craigslist for a long time. They made a good effort to actually find homes for all of them and at least three of them got saved. The last two finally went in the crush pile about 6 months ago. all that was left were two frames with rusted out cabs. One had bad fenders and a homemade flatbed and the other had the standered cargo box with the floor gone. There was a stack of empty axle housings too. There is nothing there now, but I go up there fairly frequently, if something like that shows up again that is more than residue I'll let you guys know.

I think I'm the guy from Canada. I pulled what ever parts I could in the time I was there. They said they had asked around and had several folks come buy and look. Several low balled the price or only wanted some stuff. When I left there there was a complete (-Windshield frame) M-37 and a complete M-43. Two picked pretty clean M-37s, a box to a M101A1 and a bunch of rusty M-37 fuel tanks. I kick myself for not grabing the tanks. :( I took one M-37 that had a realy bad cab and box, but had axles and a trasfer case. Didn't have time to part it there. And what ever other parts I could grab in three hours off the other trucks.(had to leave on a ferry) Could have spent all day there. I dug a bunch of bits out of the mud that was under some of the other cars. I was able to get some good spares and more than I need. Not a lot of chances on the west coast for stuff like this to come up. And a day off work. It was like the stars all lined up for this trip. I have the bits in dry storage waiting to be brought back to life now. If you are close and need bits I might be able to help.

I know what you mean about there not being a lot of chances for us west coast folks to find this stuff. I'm glad that you saved what you did, I went there on my winter break (usually I'm over in Pullman attending school) and saw all of the trucks, 4 M37's, the M43 and that trailer. The next time I went back was spring break and all of the trucks except the worst two were gone. The guys that run the place told me that somebody left with one truck and some parts and somebody else hauled off one or two other trucks and just about everything else. They made it sound like the last one they sold stayed kinda local and everything else went north. Of course, this was all almost a year ago now. I'm really kicking myself for not getting the nicer or the two residue trucks, it still had a good cab, steering gear and some bed panels that were better than mine, I just never had a place to store it. When I went to recover some parts, I found it had been thrown in the crush pile the day before, it was still there, intact, but I wasn't allowed near it.

Well, as far as bits are concerned I would hate to take anything you might need. It's a real shot in the dark, but I'm on the hunt for a door mounted spare tire carrier and an extra wheel, I remember there was still one on the M43. Any chance you grabbed it and don't need it?
