Exhaust Pipe Location

Post by WarrenD »

Another newbie question coming.....
Which is the correct side for the exhaust pipe to dump on? I've been looking at photos of M37s (my photos from various shows this summer as well as others here and on the net) and I've seen the pipe dump in front of the rear wheels on both the left and right. Maybe I'm falsely assuming that all the engines are 230 cid's? Is there a correct side?

Pipe location

With the standard 230 flat head there should only be one exhaust pipe and it exits in front of the right side rear tire. If you've seen pipes on the left as well then the owner has probably dropped in some other kind of engine(V-8 maybe) or other such modification.

Can't say I've seen dual exhaust, just have seen some with the pipe coming out the driver's side, thus the question.

Stock on my '53 Cdn. 251 6cyl. was on the passenger side, with the muffler under the running board, dumping infront of the tire. I belive mine may have had a fording kit at one point as it has some mounting brakets on the base of the cab, and near the top of the roof to support the exhaust pipe extension.
