Big road trip, going through Memphis, anyone here live there

Post by powerwagontim »

I have bought a new Dodge Ram, but it is in Southern California, and I am in Vermont. Can you say ROAD TRIP? I am flying out to SoCal next Sunday, the 17th, being picked up at the airport by a Power Wagon Forum friend who graciously also picked my new truck up from the dealer about a month ago and found safe indoor storage for it. I am then heading east, by a somewhat roundabout route, visiting and staying with Power Wagon friends along the way. My route will take me through Memphis Tennessee, around the 26th. Anyone here live there? I would like to stop at Memphis Equipment and have a look around. Is it the sort of place that you can wander around, or is it pretty much closed to that sort of thing? Anyway, if there is anyone here around there that would like a visitor, let me know! Always great to meet new faces, and to put actual faces to names.
Thanks,
Tim

Just curious, what is the reason to buy a truck so far from home. I have a daughter in Cali and live in Wi, maybe my next truck should come from Cali. Do you have a secret?

Hi Rick,
Unfortunately, I am passing through Albuquerque so will be quite a bit North of Tuscon, but thanks for the offer.
DJ, I had a list of things I wanted in a truck, and I found the 09s pretty well picked over, and the new design 10s just trickling in were not set up the way I wanted. I did a search and found the exact truck I wanted, but 3000+ miles away. I contacted my local dodge dealer, and asked them if they would buy the truck from CA, and I would buy it from them and do my trade in with them. It all worked out perfectly, plus I get a cool road trip out of the deal!

powerwagontim, Congrats on finding your new truck, thats one heck of a road trip.
I've always heard that vehicles from Cali had more restrictive emission control devices on them and you should avoid them at all cost. Is this no longer true?

Yeah, the trip should be fun. California vehicles do have lots of emissions stuff, but Vermont uses the same standards. So, it works out the same for me.

Congrats Tim! Since I just picked up an '06 Ram 1500 Crew Cab w/ hemi, I can tell you that you won't be disappointed!

They really don't "dial 'em down" emissions-wise out here. Most vehicles nowadays are set up for "50 state emissions", and I have no compliants about the available power (just keep your foot light on the pedal or you'll think "M37" every time you stop to fill it up)!

Hi Gary,
I traded in an o3 Ram 2500, so I already know I wont be disapointed!
It will be interesting to see how the various treaks they have made in the last 6 years as far as improving the mileage.
