Door Latch Trouble

Post by James West »

All,
Never let a bonehead drive your truck, family included. I let my cousin drive mine and when he went to open the drivers door, he yanked up instead of pushing down. This took place while I was telling him to push down the whole time  . That just made him pull up harder. Somehow something busted. I now have to push the outside handle down and pull the inside handle up to keep the latch engaged while I shut the door. This has to takeplace with the window down to be accomplished. I took the lower panel off to see if I could sort it out. It seems that a keeper spring is busted and it seems to be located in the hardest to reach place right between the beveled bolt (latch), and the outside edge of the door. I can't figure out how to get to it or fix it. Any ideas? :?:

Simply remove the latch assembly from inside the door shell, do the necessary repairs and reinstall it.
