Electric wipers

If you have updated to electric wipres, how did you route your wiring along the winshield frame? I was thinking of running it inside the frame to hide it. I have a hard top and I will not be folding the windshield so I won't need any wire slack.

Hi David,
I ran mine as a single wire through the left windshield pivot bolt, up through the internal left post and over the front side of the strap mounts, (with a short "spur" wire down to the left wiper, then across to the right wiper. The AB Linn units are self-grounded so a 2nd wire is not needed. I also encased the wire in some black Painless 1/4 nylon mesh as added protection, with a matching black clamp to secure each one. It tucks away nicely along the top of the windshield frame.

I should also add that I still run the soft top.

What are our choices, prices and sources for 24V electric wipers?

You can get cheap import motors, arms, and blades from several vendors. Not much if you desire to wipe more off your glass than a heavy dew. The vacuum motors will out perform them if in good condition. Premium quality motors are available in both 12 and 24 volt, with heavy arms and blades. We offer the better quality stuff. Big difference in price, also a big difference in performance, longivity, and the blade sweep, (actual area of the glass the blades clear off.)

So, Charles the bottom line for your line is how much and where made?

The switch and motors are United Technologies brand, the arms are Anco heavy duty adjustable, the blades are Trico heavy duty and are refillable. All are US based Companies, I don't know if they have manufacturing facilities outside the US or not. Both motors are controlled by a single dash mounted switch and have an automatic return to park feature. They can be installed so that virtually the whole glass is cleared. This includes everything but the wiring harness, we don't furnish that because people desire to mount switches in various locations which dictates the length of the wires. We do include installation diagram and wiring diagram. The cost for all the parts less wiring harness is $450.

The switch also has provision for operating a windshield washer pump if you wish to install a washer system. The washer system is optional.

I've have wondered if I could use the electric system out of the M35A3. The window glass is the same as the M35 serries so why not use the electric wipper out of one?

But to answer Dave's question. I would just run the wire on the same path as the vacume tubing ran. Kind of like what Cal_Gary said.
M37s are HMMWV in my world!

Yes you can use the A3 system. Most folks don't like it because it is so cumbersome and sticks out into the cab. It is a rather poor design. This is an issue with the M37 as the in cab space is significantly less than an M35. If you had a passenger in the middle and slammed on brakes, they would have the imprint of the motor/switch and bracket in their face. The mechanical arms and joints used to drive the wiper arms are noisy, especially after some loose motion gets in the mix. The blade sweep is an issue also, wipes a relatively small area of the glass. You may save a buck if you can find surplus or take-off components, however you won't beat a direct drive system for effectiveness.
