ANOTHER M37 SERIAL NUMBER QUESTION

Post by camfen »

I posted a few weeks ago about titling my 1962 M37 I bought from GSA. The form 97 I received had just the numbers on the dash plate "65912" and I was wondering if I should have it corrected to reflect the entire serial number from the frame which is "2661165912". The opinion was to just title it with the numbers on the form 97. I tried last week and unfortunately there is another vehicle titled in Oregon under serial number "65912". Now I'm back to getting the form 97 corrected to reflect the entire serial number "2661165912" From looking at the "production date" section on the site my frame number appears to have an extra 1. The frame number stamping is perfectly clear on my truck. Any thoughts? :?:

In MA you can have the # inspected and verified by the State Police, then take a form to the registry. In NH this can be done by an inspection station, licensed auto dealer, or police officer for vehicles sold with a "paper" bill of sale and no previous title in any state.

The other similar serial should not have been an issue unless it was also a Dodge M37. :? Same or similar serials on two different make ancient vehicles is not uncommon.

It wasn't a Dodge but they wanted to refer it to the State Police to have an assigned VIN number issued to the truck (No Thanks). I'm going to try to have the Government Form 97 reissued with the frame number instead of the glove box number. I assume at this point from looking at the registry that there are both 2661 and 26611 beginning serial numbers issued in 1962.
