V-8's and exhaust clerance

Post by W_A_Watson_II »

For those who plan on doing a V-8 conversion, either make sure you notch the frame plenty, or don't brake a manifold and have to install a slightly larger/different manifold. I had to unbolt and jack the engine up to get the new manifold in, and even then it's a snug fit.

Yea, the stock 68 manifold didn't have the ribs and the notch was provided enough clearance

When you installed the v8, did you keep the brake lines and fuel line along the frame, or reroute them.

The brake line runs along the inside left frame rail, while the fuel lines are now down the right, and come up into the engine bay at the firewall.

All are metal lines and are wrapped with a rubber where ever they will rub or come in contact with sharp edges.

I did finish the re-exhaust job and now have some clearance thanks to a rotary tool:

What camera do you use?
Its hard to get auto focus cameras to focus at that range, and you got real good detail, Im impressed.
Oh good job with the manifold.

Poor Rich,

Thanks. My Camera is a older Sony DSC-P10. I think my P7 had better pictures. Oh, I also always re-size and sometimes crop my pictures for posting. (Getting the rotary tool in there was much more difficult than getting the picture).
Thanks,
Will

Will,

I was looking on your web page and I see that you have a NP435D3 in your M? Do you want a FREE granny gear 435? I have the take out one from when I had teh 360 in mine, and, the tailshaft yoke splines are shot, so, the rear output shaft, and rear yoke are bad, but the rest of it is perfect. You could take the gearset out of it and put it in your rig. If you want it, it's yours. I'll be making a run down to the northwest suburbs area of Chicago this sunday if you wanted to meet me. I dont have any use for it, and it bugs me sitting down there in my basement not doing anything when someone else could be using it.

Josh,

Thanks, but I swapped in a granny 435 over the winter and it made a nice improvement.
