Was the M101 trailer ever configured as a dump bed trailer?
OR
Is there another designation for a 3/4 ton dump bed trailer??

Yes
It is the same trailer. Just pull the 2 bolts on the tongue that hold the front of the bed in place. Lock the brakes and back the trailer up. It will dump. I have replaced the bolts with tractor hitch pins and a keeper pin to make it real easy to dump the trailer.

The real purpose of that feature is to reduce cubage for shipment, such as air or sea. Remove the two AFT bolts and fold the tongue UP. The trailing stubs are the right length to hold the trailer about level. I think the data plate makes ref to this in the cubage section. I have found that doing it the other way tends to squash the tail lights.

When i pull the bolts on the front of the trailer body on the A frame tongue it does not squash my taillights. I am using the round ones not the later NATO linger lights. However it does flex my license plate which is on a flexible mount. If it was a rigid mount then it would bend the plate. Also if you are on uneven ground it could squash the lgiths on a rock or dirt pile. Bottom line - when you do it the first time do it part way and look at what you have. Exercise common sense and do what works for you. Mine works fine but I don't blindly back up and ram my trailer tailgate into the ground either. I put to much work into my truck and trailer I use it I don't abuse it. Also thinking I am using two inch bigger tires on trailer (which means if I overload it the tire binds - so it limits me to not overload by accident. So maybe that also keeps the tail lights from hitting. just FYI
