Seat support for radio set

Post by sunsetoutpost2 »

I have a complete AN/GRC-5 radio set mounted on the seat behind the driver. On the convoy last month, someone told me that there should be a support bracket bolted to the verticle side of the wheel well. My '53 37 was an air force radio truck and I notice two holes drilled in that wheel well. Does anyone know about this bracket? Photo? Dimensions?

Yes, I know about that support bracket as I have a AN/VRC-10 mounted on the seat of my truck.

I found a print for the bracket and made a few sets. I mounted my radio and sold the remaining sets to John at Midwest Military but that was quite a few years ago, I doubt he still has any in stock.

I can see if I still have the print or even one or two brackets still laying around, I'll let you know.

There is a picture of the radio in my truck posted on www.mooremilitaria.com in the pictures section under Kevin Baker, that pic may show the bracket.

I bought the windshield cover from Beachwood Canvas. I know the M37 never had an official windshield cover but it sure looks nice when it's on.

No luck on the prints or extra brackets yet, still looking (lots of stuff to look through).

Just answered my own question. I had the install info pack for radios in the M37/42 and the drawing is there. If anyone is interested, I could post a copy. It is made of 1-1/2x3/16 angle iron welded together. Simple to make.

Well you beat me to it, I just found the same install prints last night and was going to post the drawing today. I'm glad you found the info you were looking for.

I'm still looking through my junk for a possible extra seat bracket. If I find one would you be interested or are you set on making your own??

Sure, if you find one I would be interested. I just made new seat boards and they are getting 3 coats of OD. Soon as I get them back in the truck, I'll need the bracket. One other thing I need is a center tailgate hinge.
