Gasket material for top of gas tank..
When replacing the cover holding the vent or pickup lines or the fuel sender in the gas tank, what type of gasket material (or goop) should be used?
You can trust your mother, but you can't trust your ground.
Oops - ignore me.
I just had a brilliant idea! I'll go to NAPA and ask for gasket material that can withstand modern gasoline.

You might go and ask, but don't rely on that getting you the right material. Viton is the best, cork will work with gas, but is much more liable to crack or break at the screw holes when compressed. The best source I know for VITON rubber is McMaster-Carr, available in sheets of various thickness, even reinforced with fabric if you so desire, that's what we use. Never a failure thus far.N1VSM wrote:I just had a brilliant idea! I'll go to NAPA and ask for gasket material that can withstand modern gasoline.
