I always think to myself...."biggest damn jeep I've ever seen". I then end up explaining what it is. Education is the key!

It's all god anyway you slice it, most just don't know the difference?

I have owned several M37s since my first in 1972 and get that frequently, usually in the form of "Nice big Jeep" and like you I explain what it is and sometimes they still don't get it. Then as they are leaving I hear "Wish I had a Jeep like that"
Oh well, I tried but they just don't get it, their mind is made up, it's a Jeep!

Another comment I have heard several times is about buying jeeps and M37s surplus from the army, new in the crate for $50. and am assured it is true because "My uncle or friends father or boy friend or guy I know at work or...... got one and all you have to do is put it together." and at that point since I don't wish to argue I just say OH, I'll have to get one of those. Where do I find out about that? Usually the answer has been you have to know someone who knows someone and not everybody can get them, just friends of friends. Oh well left out again

Hey Bruce, how are you? The weather is hot and humid and I spent the day laying a brick sidewalk and sweating my a$$ of but it's done now so I'm inside enjoying a tall cool one.

Carter, may not have been true for jeeps, or M37s but it was true for WWII motorcycles. After the war the govt. was selling Indians in a crate for less than a new one from a dealer. That is part of the reason Indian failed in 1955. In 69 I could still buy WWII new British bikes ( BSAs and Royal Enfields) new in crate for around $350.

Yeah I've gotten that one thrown at me many many times. I tried explaining to people that it isn't a Jeep, but after a while you get tired of trying to educate people who don't want to be educated. Like Carter said some people don't get it, and some don't care to get it, so I don't even try anymore. "Yeah right buddy, its a Jeep, whatever....".....

I've even heard deuces referred to as "Jeeps." I guess that, if it's OD and has flat fenders, it must be a "Jeep" as far as civilians are concerned.

I didn't know about the bikes but I don't think M37s ever came in a crate although I have read some jeeps were shipped partially broken down during WWII to save shipping space and reassembled in theater.
I believe the people who tell such tales have spent to much time reading the adds in the back of Popular Mechanics and do so just to have something to talk about to those who own and display military vehicles.

i gave up trying to explain. jeep, hummer,ww2 truck,,weapons carrier.
