I wish we could'a yakked about this a little more? George Baxter at www.ArmyJeepParts.com in PA is a lot closer to you, same cost per gallon, but less shipping & handling.
The Rapco Kid does a great job, but you'll be spending too much, I think?
No worries I guess, you get the color.

Hi Bruce,
Not your fault. I had looked at Army Jeep Parts site and did not find the Strata Blue. Not to say they dont have it but I didnt see it listed. Oh well, thats how it goes. Shipping on the 4 gallons of paint and a dozen rattle cans was $31.00 which didnt seem excessive to me, given the weight of the order.

I used aerovoe on all 3 of our vehicles and never had a problem , i just thin it a little with laq thinner and use a grav. feed gun (not hvlp), my weasel goes in snow mudd woods etc. it may rub through but I just touch it with a rattle can, I just like their ww2 od color

You made the correct choice of suppliers. RAPCO is THE dealer from the CO. The other's in the northeast buy their product from RAPCO. The freshest product will come from RAPCO, my understanding, they buy in bulk & actually dispense into 1 gallon containers on site. Great folks to deal with also.

Believe it or not, I did my whole truck with rattle cans of Aerovoe semi-gloss (several cans ...). 1 coat, minimal prep. Used a sel-f etching primer (also rattle can). My goal was to get it all 1 color so as not to attract the wrong kind of attention from the inspection folks & local constabulary. Know that my truck has at least 15 !! coats of paint - some done with a brush - and I've counted at least 6 different colors, not including rust (-: Well, it at least has 2 layers minimum between metal and elements.

Aervoe rattlers reliably and uniformly fades to a nice "patina" (flat), not to mention some comical shades of green when left in the sun. I must say that different paint lots give the same color (initially). Can't be said for all paints.

I know, in the long run it was a complete waste of money & time. For now, it's an o.k. band-aid fix. That's why I chose the cheapest paint in a historically believable color. I have bigger fish to fry than the paint job for now. No good looking great if she can't move under her own power.

Anyone have any experience with TM9?

Like many others, I had a horrible experience with Aervo Paint a few
years ago. Re-painted the front half of my M37. The Aervo paint would not dry even after a month or two. I could peel it off with my fingernail.
Painted most parts one or two at a time and each time Aervo gave me a
different shade of o.d. from the same container. Never did figure that
one out.
I would not paint my dog house with Aervoe Paint. It's just crap.
Use Gillespie.... good stuff for the money.

It's been said before that Gillispie is mil-spec paint while Aervoe is only mil-spec color.

Our Krylon/Sherwin Williams rep stopped in at the day job yesterday and I was explainiing my Aervoe paint issue. He wanted to help and is going to tint a gallon of their Iron Guard alkyd enamel to 24087 for me to try. I will keep you posted on how it shoots and looks. If it works well it could be another source for paint.

I explained how the paint sources were limited in our hobby and he seemed intrigued.

FYI, I used what was left of my Aervoe to shoot my cab interior, two weeks ago. Tuesday night I drive the truck to a local car meet and my foot pushes the paint off the pedal! It has still not cured.

The bright side was I won another award for best work in progress.

I think You'll notice more and more of the Aervoe chipping off in the coming weeks and months. I hate to say but I see a respray in your future.

Yes, I am glad I did not buy more it for a topcoat. I am going to put the heat lamps on it this weekend to maybe help.
