Installing electric wipers?

Post by Nickathome »

Will be installing electric wipers in my truck soon. What is the best procedure for doing this? Can I simply hook 1 wire to a positive terminal of one of the batteries, then ground the motors to the windshield frame?

Yes you can hook your wipers up that way. One question are you running 12 or 24 volts and are the wiper motors you are going to purchase the correct voltage?

If you pick up you power from somewhere before the breakers under the dash use a fuse!!!

We installed the 24v with a dedicated ground wire (2 wires going up the w/s frame). We installed a push/pull switch on the dash and ran the power to an extra circuit breaker daisy chained into the main wiring. We chose the on/off switch so we wouldn't have to reach across to turn on the pass side.

What about disconnecting the vaccum wipers

Post by Caldwelljj0 »

What do you have to do to disconnect the vaccuum wipers to not lose compression when you hook up the electric wipers?

Plug the vacuum port at the intake manifold.

The electric motors I got from AB Linn have a separate ground post-make sure yours are not a two-post with positive and negative because running a single hot wire won't complete the circuit w/o a ground wire. I'm routing mine using the existing vacuum hose path through the windshield frame pivot bolt and up through the windshield frame.

Wipers

Post by Nickathome »

I bought a set of 24v wipers from HingsingM37(David). BTW Thanks David, got them one day last week. I have a civy fuel pump that has no vacuum line. The line to the intake manifold has been plugged already.

These wipers did not come with any wire. What size wire is good to run 24V with and what size inline fuse?

I'm just going to use the on/off switches that are on each wiper motor. Not real concered about having to reach over. Having working wipers is the main priority.
