question

Post by M37DODGE »

Hi every body, how is ti going?

Well here I am to get some help from this great forum that is helping me so much with the m37 as here in Spain is difficult to obtain information about this truck.

The question is about a strange piece of metal which is on the passengers side, very close to the support of jerrycan, and the outside mirror support, well I think even could be part of the mirror support, and there are rests of wood inside. For the state, it seems to be original.

Does any body know what it could be?

Thank you very much

Hello William, I am not sure I understand where that metal is. Is it on the fender? the side of the hood? in front of the passenger door? How does that piece of metal look like? Near the jerry can all I can think of is the fording pipe that mounts there, but no wood anywhere. Got any pictures? :?:

I didn't see anything on the fender. There's something under the mirror bracket on the cowl, but I can't tell what it is. I suspect that the wood on the inside was put there to reinforce the bracket, whatever it is.

It looks to me like the mirror and the other "piece of metal" were installed where the upper support for the Jerry can should be. (These trucks did not originally have a mirror on the passenger side, William.)

Yes William I see what you are talking about. The flat bracket right above the mirror base, with the two bolts on its ends. My friend I have no idea what that is, but I would take a long shot by saying it is part of the snorkel. I remember that the snorkel attaches on the two bolts that run down in front of the door, but without having seen one from up close, I can not say if it is held by such a bracket also. Regarding the wood I really have no answer other than someone got creative in the Spanish Army. By the way what is that insignia on the door mean?

Hello Chriss G. Nice picture and even better truck, but I can not tell much about the snorkel mount from that angle. However it does mount quite high in relation to where the bracket is on Williams truck. In other words it may not be a snorkel bracket that he has.

Wiliam, it appears someone has taken what would be a mirror mount and installed them ("L" shaped) on the jerry can upper support. If the wood was under the brackets they may have needed it to provide space so the mirror arm would have enough clearance to be useful. It also looks like someone has a bolt running through the upper jerry can support where the strap runs through. Like it was stated earlier..originally the driver's side only had a mirror.
It is not an original part for the snorkel mount. The snorkel mount uses the 2 bolts near the upper door hinge..(1 above and 1 below) in a vertical line.

Hello all. I remembered that my truck had that same thing too. As far as I can remember it was a robust piece able to hold enough weight and is held on to the truck by the lower two bolts that hold the windshield on the truck. I can not remember what did I do with it, since I removed it right away once I got the truck. Still no idea what that thing might have been for. Regarding the passenger mirror on William's rig it seems that they used the mounting brackets from another m37, so I guess that makes it "politically correct." :)

Ok We do not know what is it but we may know that at least it could be original. I think that Sotven and me are talkin about the same thing.

Thanks all for your collaboration.
