The whine of the straight-cut gears is all you should hear-no rattling or clunking. You didn't mention replacing the throwout bearing-if that wasn't replaced I'd check it first. Also, is your pilot bearing in place? If not you could be getting some input shaft wobble. Since your truck is disassemble...

I still have manual steering and confess to sometimes long for PS; however, I don't drive the truck that much so I save the cost of PS while still enjoying my truck.

My truck was already converted to 12V and on an electric pump, so I stayed electric and replaced the existing once since I had no idea how many miles were on it.

The M151 exhaust is smaller than the M37 but I don't recall how much. Somebody got a MUTT who can help out?
