Re: uneven cylinder head temp
"At speed" being the key words here. How many people here are pushing there old engines that hard? I am not going to get into all of the laws of thermodynamics but basically the hotter the water flowing through the radiator the faster it will shed the heat to the air so even though you are...

Re: uneven cylinder head temp
If you get below 180 the engine will lose power plus it will build up condensation that will not cook out of the oil and you will end up with gunk and milky residue in the engine. Along with the acids that come with water in the oil.

Re: Brake Shoe reline, R4-S compound
High friction means more heat, more heat means faster brake fade. I would be careful with this one. It is Ok if you are not doing long downhill mountain passes. With the gearing in a M37 it is probably moot point but just something to think about.

Re: engine stands
So basically the heads are ground off of the flywheel bolts and there is really nothing holding the flywheel on but the remnants on the bolts without the heads? Damn! You might want to order up a new flywheel while you are at it because I will bet those bolt holes are going to be oblong. Hopefully t...

Re: Two batteries, one dead cell, still start?
No, You will only have 22 volts at best and probably less. You need 24 volts. If it is still starting then you do not have a dead cell, you probably have a weak cell. With modern batteries you can pretty much guarantee that that battery is never going to come back and be a dependable battery. And wh...

Re: uneven cylinder head temp
All engines have hot and cool areas, A 40 degree difference is not drastic but it is something to take note of. Those temps are not something that is going to cause any damage. Also, I have found that the IR guns you buy at places like Harbor Freight are fantastic for doing what you are doing, Compa...

Re: M37 BED ON EBAY, W/TAILGATE...
If you look at my build thread you will see two complete beds and a couple bedsides I picked up, both beds have solid toolboxes on them and the orange bed is pretty solid except for the tops of the fenderwells that were cut out. I also got two real nice bedsides. All for 350.00! I was not planning o...

Re: uneven cylinder head temp
Just curious, Are you running enough RPM for the water pump to circulate the coolant enough? Maybe run it around the block in third at a little higher than your normal rpm and check it again. If that brings it down then the water pump is probably not moving enough water for whatever reason. You coul...

Re: Another green thing to work on, 53 M37
Well' I go under the knife for my prostate surgery on Monday so the restoration has come to a halt again. Missed the connection on the last of my parts due to a miscommunication on dates on my part but I am working on trying to get someone to meet with the guy on his way back down from vacation. Unf...

Re: Another green thing to work on, 53 M37
I have to start going through all the bits and pieces and culling out the ones that I want to keep and put the stuff that is beyond anyones needs in the scrap pile and the rest will be set aside for the Gilbert meet and I am hoping I can get a spot where my RV will fit and I can try to sell off what...

Re: Another green thing to work on, 53 M37
Scored some more parts. Got two complete beds with solid toolboxes and solid floor rails. One has a semi-decent floor but the fenderwells were cut for a water tank. Sort of makes you wonder where the tires went if the tank was there? The whit bed has arrow straight sides on it with very little rust ...

Re: Rebuild time on the 230 flat head engine
Do NOT use the copper spray on the blue side of the head gasket!!! The copper spray is only for metal to metal gaskets. The gasket you have sounds like a hybrid gasket and already has a sealer built into the material on the block side. I would contact Fel-Pro to find out what if any sealer should be...

Re: Rebuild time on the 230 flat head engine
I am looking at that picture of the piston in the hole and I keep getting drawn to the heavy horizontal scratches in the block on the top section when at the same time I see fine circular milling marks at the bottom of the cylinder. What is the story there? These use a metal head gasket don't they? ...
