Re: Disconnect 4-wheel drive
After searching unsuccessfully for Warn hubs, I bought a set of Selectro manual hubs for a reasonable price. I’m not sure if my gas mileage increased, but the truck is much easier to drive at low speeds and around town

Re: engine dies after 3 min
Photo bucket posts are no longer viable. No one can see them unless you pay the extortion fee. The Jeep cap has the vent valve. The M 37 does not. They are interchangeable fit so you see them everywhere. Like M 151 wipers being sold as m37 or m38. This is good info. I'm going through look into it. ...

Re: engine dies after 3 min
I'm not near my truck or any of my manuals, but I could have sworn my early model truck has a two position gas cap. I could easily be wrong on that. My vent line is open in the engine bay and is not hooked up to the air horn

Re: engine dies after 3 min
If you have ruled out the coil going bad (my first guess), have you considered a gas tank venting issue? Any chanc your gas cap is in the fording position and the tank isn't venting? My dirt bike had a gas cap recall since a chech valve in the tank would fail and the tank would not vent, resulting i...

Re: head lights
Sorry, I have no idea. My stock headlamps are a very dim and yellow color compared to modern headlamps. And my gauges say the truck is running at a good voltage. I'd like to swap 'em out for 24v LED lamps, but I can't justify the expense. It's not like I'm outdriving the headlights at 40 mph!

Re: engine dies after 3 min
Use carb cleaner spray to find the vacuum leak. Not nearly as volitile and is obvious when it covers a leak. The sudden high idle screams vacuum leak. Don't neglect to spray the manifold to block and that carb base. You didn't use a sealant on the gasket between the main body and air horn did you? ...

Re: Head gasket..
After I replaced the head gasket and had my head milled .020", I found our my water jacket was pretty plugged up. I cannot drain the block using the petcock by the distributor. I kind of wished I'd tried to clean it when the head was off. Just another thing to consider

EZ8, I'm running the same valvoline racing oil, just for the high zinc. I change it once a year, or 500 miles, whichever comes first. Also running 75-90 gear oil in the diffs and gearboxes. I think I will change out the gear boxes to the 50wt amsoil transmission oil. I run amsoil in my daily drivers...

Re: Priming oil Pump
Two questions here. Can you pull the oil pump, and reinstall it, without messing with the distributor? I really hate pulling the lines and wires off of the distributor.
I have a leak from the five sided plate on the back of the oil pump. This is the same o-ring we are talking about right?

Re: What's the Best Speedo Cable Lube?
I haven't touched my speedometer since I bought the truck in 2009. The speedometer has always fluctuated bit. Would lubing help, or should I get a new cable and housing?

Re: Charging Question
I have the original 25amp generator, but changed out the regulator to a solid state one and went to the colored charging gauge instead of the original amp guage. My truck is at the top of the yellow with the ignition on but truck not running. When running it is always mid green. I think you have a d...

Re: Aircraft switch for fuel pump
I'm using a switch which looks the same, minus the cover. I also don't have an oil pressure disconnect in place, but it is on the list of things to do To operate my truck there are three switches 1. Turn on battery negative disconnect 2. Turn on ignition 3. Turn on fuel pump I often get a quarter mil...

Re: Master Cylinder Vent
I put together a motiv bleed setup just like Nam vet's. When I was done, I put a filter on the hose end which connected to the power bleeder and coiled the hose up ... it's still there seven years later. I don't have the vent line on the truck

Re: OEM Mechanical fuel/Vac pump, vs just Electrical pump?
Years ago when I first got my truck, I floated the idea on this forum of running the fuel line on the passenger side. Some people thought it wasn't smart with the exhaust there. I can't remember if the issue was vapor lock or catching on fire. Innever got around to that and just put a Holley fuel pr...
