Finally.

I bought a 'restored' truck last December; some of the old hands here cautioned me about what restored might mean. They were right. 7 months in the shop, total rebuild on the drivetrain, new wiring, paint, canvas, radiator (Thanks, Charles!), tires... Total cost was only three times the purchase pri...

Re: 12v fuel pump in 24v vehicle?

Running a tap killed one of my batteries in pretty short order. Lesson learned.

Fuel pump vacuum

Wipers no work - they did (poorly) 6 months ago, before I started the rebuild. Checking vacuum at the metal line from the pump, I see it fluctuating, -7 to +2, maybe 3 times a second. Well, 7 pounds vacuum isn't gonna run the wipers... Correct me if I'm wrong (no manual at hand, engine rebuilder sti...

Re: slight hesitation?

Yep, with a half inch of choke knob out, the problem goes away. Has to be an adjustment issue, as everything has been rebuilt. At this point I'm just waiting for the bodywork guy to finish the bed (much worse than it initially appeared) and it will be back on the road. Everything else is squared awa...

Re: Well...

3 ckt breakers attached to that center strut. I had wanted to avoid replacing the wiring harness, but while tracing down a problem caused by the 'creative' "restoration" done by the previous owner, what I found terrified me: bare wires, insulation so dry-rotted it fell off at a touch, a ch...

I just finished installing a brand new harness, so I believe I will stay with the 24 volt system. Opened up my ancient aftermarket heater today to see how hard a motor swap would be... that heater was not built to come apart. Might start looking for a new heater...

Preferred 24V - 12V converter?

Any advice on a preferred 24V to 12V stepdown? I need to run the trucks' heater fan, and a cig. lighter socket (suitably hidden) for cel charger, gps, etc.
I'd prefer not to split a tap off one battery - on the other hand, I'd also prefer not spending 300+ on it...

New camshaft, pistons, valves, timing gears and chain, oil pump, water pump, rebuilt fuel pump, distributor, carburetor, radiator (thanks again, Charles). The only things not rebuilt are the generator and starter. Timing set to 4* btdc. Cranks instantly with no drama, runs very smoothly. A little ex...

slight hesitation?

My engine just went back in the truck today after a full rebuild. What a relief to get to this point!
Anyway, it starts and runs fine, but when blipping the gas there is a slight hesitation before rpms pick up. Is this normal, or is some tuning needed?
