What do these vacuum lines do? Related to my troubles?
Hi, When I bought my M37 the line closer to the camera was disconnected (broken fitting). The truck had been running fine without it. Recently, it sputters and hesitates when driving. I can shift through the gears, but it really hesitates bad and there's no power. You can eventually climb in speed, ...

Meyers Diamond 8ft plow - setup for no drill install on M37
Hi, My M37 came with a modern Meyers Diamond 8ft snow plow custom setup to install on a M37 without drilling the frame. The history is - two owners ago took the truck down to the frame for a restoration and added the plow. When he was nearly finished, he had money problems and the next owner bought ...

Show me your paint jobs - I need to pick a color for my M37
Hi all, I am the recent owner of a 1962. Some of you have already given me mechanical advice and I appreciate it! Some history of my truck - it went to Vietnam and back, was sold to a state agency, then various private owners before coming to me. At one time the truck was red, which is visible with ...

Re: Inverted flared tube elbow?
Contrary to popular belief, it is not for cooling. You couldn't move enough air through the tubing to remove more than a few BTU. It is to provide enough fresh air to prevent ionization and remove condensation in the distributor. The tubes are placed in the center of the airflow of the intake tract...

Re: Inverted flared tube elbow?
Thank you so much! I made one, but not sure it's quite right as I'm replicating one that doesn't seem to be original.NAM VET wrote:I have lots of spares, let me see if I have one I can send you. HC

Re: Inverted flared tube elbow?
1962m37, Make sure you get the clocking correct, it's kind of like a pitot tube and helps circulate air through the dizzy housing. If you get the clocking wrong it won't work as intended. Andy Thanks Andy, I believe got it approximately the same angle. It's probably not exact to the degree, but is ...

Re: Inverted flared tube elbow?
The 90 is just a bent piece of aluminum tubing. It was (originally) flared and inserted into the brass. Another brass fitting compressed the tube and screwed on (no solder). Obviously it was crammed too tight as evidenced by the section of stripped threads. The tubing is probably smashed and corrod...

Re: Inverted flared tube elbow?
Thanks - how about the 90 tube that's attached to the brass fitting? Do I need that? My friend thought I might be able to heat the old one to remove the tube and solder it to the new brass fitting (if the old one is soldered).

Inverted flared tube elbow?
Hi All, I've got a broken fitting on what I believe is the air clearner? I'm not sure exactly what it does, but from my manual it looks to be an inverted flare tube elbow. It was broken when I got the truck and the threads are gone so need to replace it. Any tips on where to find this part or what t...

Re: Best practices for downshifting?
I tried a few times to go from 3rd to 2nd. Shifted into neutral, reved it, tried to shift into 2nd, but just got teeth grind. Is there a certain speed or engine rev that would help me find a sweet spot? As of now, I have to come to a stop (or near spot) before I can get it in 2nd. Thanks! Did you d...

Re: Broken copper brake line with flare? Where to get it?
is it a copper line? copper nickel is ok but copper is technically illegal on brake systems. basically the only time copper should be used in any automotive application is vacuum lines. Steel or copper-nickel only. its going to stop alot better with all 4 wheels working! You are correct, it is copp...

Re: Broken copper brake line with flare? Where to get it?
A working engine is good and important, but having brakes that stop is even more important. Going is sometimes optional, but stoping never is. I completely redid m trucks brake lines, new bleeders and new copper/nickel lines, got the parts and a loaner flare tool from FedHill, they have every thing...

Re: Broken copper brake line with flare? Where to get it?
Yikes! In stock form the truck has only a single brake circuit, which is to say that it has one line that feeds both front and back brakes. A failure such as yours should have left you with NO brakes at all. So it’s puzzling you still had any brakes at all, unless someone has modified your truck in...
