Re: Troop Seats
Having ALL of the manuals (including parts, accessories, maintenance and operators) for the truck really helps. Just go through the pictures and drawings. You'll find how it all goes together. Don't just go to the section where you expect the information, peruse the entire thing. (Make notes where y...

Re: Electric steering motor
My compact car (FIAT) fuses the electric steering box at 70 amps.
I would go as high as I can afford on the converter just to keep from stressing it. In this application efficiency isn't a factor, so going oversized doesn't matter.

Re: Electric steering motor
Tapping power off one battery in a dual battery setup is very bad practice. It will greatly reduce battery life. There are white papers on it online. There are 4 general options for military truck multi voltage systems. 1: Convert the truck and/or accessories to all be one voltage 2: Use a buck conv...

Re: Steering knuckle lube
Copper is not a ferrous metal. Water (or oil) quench does not harden it. It does make it useable instantly and help reduce scale formation.

Anneal the copper washer.
Use torch to heat it cherry red and drop it in water.
Now it will conform to any imperfections in the sealing surface.

Re: 1953 DODGE M37
Forming a hard tube line is easy and straightforward. You don't have to make it in the same form as the original. (Pretty tough with common benders) You can come out of the master and form a full spiral to get to the frame fitting.

Re: Brake Fluid DOT 3 or DOT 5
Dot 3 is cheap and perfectly suited to drum brakes. It entrains water and needs to be flushed every few years. It is also an excellent paint remover. Dot 5 is expensive and overkill for drum brakes. Although it does not absorb water, it entrains air. This can make bleeding difficult and the pedal fe...

Re: Refurb
Careful with the apitong. That stuff is great, but it is brutal. If you get a splinter, make certain you dig the whole thing out! It doesn't rot and will cause a terrible fester if left in the skin. And wear a dust mask when working with it. Best thing though, is once you install it, you'll never ha...

Re: Refurb
Time for a different supplier! Most of the suppliers here at least have 10' precuts in bar stock. And sell drops of bar at $1.79 /lb. They had plenty of 1.25 1018 in 6' lengths in the drops. I bought one each of 1.25 and 1.50 7' long. To get that 72x18 you would have to buy a 48x96 and pay for any c...

If you think wood is pricey, look at 5140 tube. Wood will look dirt cheap. (I bought 40' for a mere $400 yesterday. For antenna towers) It's hot (112°F) midday on so I am not doing much outside. What I have noticed now as I've aged is my skin is like tissue paper. Bump anything and bleed, bruise or ...

Re: MVPA HQ CLOSED...
I've been a member of 2 local clubs affiliated with the MVPA. I've never been asked or required to join the MVPA. I've looked at what benefit they offered vs the dues they charged and couldn't even remotely justify joining. And MVPA policies are in large part why there are 3 clubs where there used t...

Since the correct bolts aren't readily available, I used elevator bolts. The head is the right diameter. But is flat. I get them at my local hardware store. (McFadden-Dale) McMaster also has them.
